When to Buy Tickets?

Yay!!!! So, we have been approved as of yesterday! I know that they say not to buy tickets until we have the VISA in hand, but this is my situation. We were approved yesterday, and they said it would take approximately 10 days for the VISA to arrive. However, we live relatively close to the capital as compared to some other parts of Nicaragua. It could take less. Even so, I want to go ahead and buy the tickets. Could I safely buy them for October 28th (16 days from now)? The only reason is that I want to save some money if possible. I would put it further out but I HAVE to be at my brother's wedding on October 30th, so I would need to fly out that day anyway.

Has anyone booked flights before they received the VISA. If so, how many days in advance did they book?

WOOHOO. Congratulations! It took us 8 BUSINESS days (we were told 7), not including day of approval and not counting weekend days (so 12 calendar days total). My husband starting calling Casa Blanca (where he chose to have the passport delivered) on day 7 to check if they had received it. I suggest you do the same when business day 10 comes around and call every day until they get it.

We cut it close. I bought the ticket 1 week 5 days out and he got it the day before he left. Cut it REAL close lol

Often asked, but always advised to wait.

There were a couple of members who lost tickets and money recently. I think they posted last month. One was put into AP AFTER approval.

Ultimately it's your choice.

I was one of the people who also just booked a ticket the night after my approval for two weeks later. My visa came in 8 days before I would board the plane to America. So it can happen that visas come in on time but it is highly risky. Like stated before, it's your choice if you want to risk anything. You might have been approved but the CO can always revoke his decision or put you in (necessary) administrative processing etc etc.

01/13/2016: I-129F filed  07/15/2016: K-1 visa in hand
10/13/2016: Filed AOS + EAD/AP.   07/07/2017: Permanent resident (Conditional)
04/16/2019: Filed ROC  11/17/2020: Approved. (10 yr GC)
