search for senator's office nearby/in your state and contact them. You might have to fill in a 'privacy release form' so that they can contact USCIS for retrieving information on your behalf. We haven't got any specific updates regarding background check. They told it may be for beneficiary or petitioner or both.

When did you call? I just called this morning but they were not available, will call later today. Did they tell you when is your pettition will be approved more likely?

Last time we called was one week back. It seems, background check is somewhat automated, which happens in everyone's case and is part of review process which takes 2-4 weeks. AFAIK If there is some specific background check further initiated, it goes outside USCIS and is more or less like a black hole which can take any number of months. In our case, Senator told to wait 30 days further in order to get further clarity regarding the background check.

Looks like my case has officially been received at the NVC. I was assigned a case ID and an invoice number. In my haste, I forgot to give my email to the customer service representative (d'oh!). But I'll call and try to give it tomorrow.

My timeline thus far --

NOA1: 10/4/2016

NOA2: 4/10/2017

Sent to NVC: 4/18/2017

Case Assigned at NVC: 4/26/2017

One quick question. We have a lawyer assigned to our case. Should I still call and give my email address? Can I give both my lawyer's email address and mine? Is the DS-261 form even still valid if I have a lawyer?

HI:

How did you find out that you case was assigned on 04/26?  My case was set to NVC on 04/19 according to the USCIS case update but I have not heard anything else. I called earlier this week to confirm that they had my email but they didn't have my case yet.......

Don't bother emailing the NVC. I just called them. Call (603) 334-0700. Press 1 and then 3. You'll have to give them your USCIS case number, your name, your spouse's name, and your spouse's birthdate. When I called on 4/27/2017, they said they had received my case the day before and the representative was nice enough to give me both my case number and my invoice number.

Be aware there seems to be some variability in how quickly your case gets entered into the system; estimate here on VisaJourney range from 1-3 weeks before your case is assigned a number.

Thank you for the information. I did a consultation with an attorney last week and she told me that I should be getting a PDF of the invoice via email.  I will call them tonight to see if they have my case. (fingers crossed)

So it looks like I am the only PD of Oct 12 left. 😔😭 This process is honestly making me crazy. I am so upset. I am happy people are getting approved but it's beginning to burn that someone with a later processing date has been approved and we aren't given answers why. This process sucks. And the robotic agents on the phone don't help.

I know it's hard.  did u send a case inquiry online?  I think it helped move mine along.  maybe not, but it seems strange that 5 days after I sent an inquiry I was approved.

I'm October 6, and still nothing. You're right, the agents on the phone are rarely helpful. However, occasionally you're get a tier 2 that is able to help. I call once a day to talk with a tier 2, and finally I got information that our background check has been processing since April 11.

They didn't say anything. The operator was super helpful. I asked if it was the FBI Name Check that was processing, but his computer screen wouldn't show him what type of background check was being worked on. He did say that the background check was the second to last step. Next step is for the file to go to an officer for review. I guess that at this point our files haven't even been seen by another human...
