Clarification re: EAD and *Seeking* Work

I had said something about this yesterday, but I just want to be sure I'm correct...

If one has applied for but not yet received the EAD, it's okay if they send out resumes and go on interviews and such, as long as they don't actually start to work until the EAD is received, correct? Like, if this person is offered a job and they say they can't start until they have their EAD and the employer is okay with that...that's all good, right?

I believe so, yes. I think the thing to avoid is participating in any kind of unpaid training or volunteer work that can be seen as benefiting future employment. I know I've seen the official documents on that somewhere, I'll go have a look.

There is nothing that says you can not look for work while waiting for the EAD.

Ewen could start looking for work NOW if he wants to. As you stated in your original post, as long as he is truthful with any potential employers and doesn't actually start any paid employment until he has the EAD in his hand then he's good to go.

I registered with several recruitment websites (Monster.com. careerbuilder.com etc..) well before my EAD was issued knowing full well that If I was offered anything i'd have to wait until my EAD was approved before I could start.
