They will conduct the interview in English or the native language of the country.

In some cases they may want proof of common language, such as untranslated emails, or video, showing communication. They do this often in China.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

In my experience there is no problem if she does not speak english.

Any discussion at Embassy is done in her native language.

My experiance has been in Tahiland but all Embassy officers at respective countrys speak the local language.

If they did not , no one could paticipate in the interview ect.

Hang in thier & be ready for a lengthy delay.

Study the forms needed for inteview & prepare them in advance to save time. See the 134 support form . You will see that it has to be completed by you, then sent to her if you are not going to interview. Look at all forms that will be in the packet 3 that will be sent to her. Practice them now.

If she doesn't speak English, there isn't a serious problem as the CO can interview her in her native language. However, if you don't speak any Spanish, be prepared for interrogation regarding how you two can communicate and have a bona fide relationship.

A CO will not deny her a visa because she doesn't speak English. The interview will be conducted in Spanish since she lives in Perú and then she will be asked how she communicates with you. If you speak Spanish, then it's all well and dandy.

Whether or not YOU speak her language is only in regard to the relationship legitimacy. Plan to send emails, letters, chats, etc. proving that you speak Spanish so they have evidence in place of your presence.

I (native-born English speaking USC) went to our interview in Caracas with my wife, who at the time spoke very little English. The interview was conducted entirely in Spanish, and all of the communications I overheard among other people there was also conducted in Spanish. I'm fluent enough in Spanish that we were all able to mutually communicate with no problems. I didn't realize the people at the embassy weren't native Spanish speakers until my wife told me, after the interview, that they spoke like "gringas".

You may want to seek someone who has had recent experience going through Lima. I didn't hear any Caracas stories right before our interview, but there were a few couples before us who went through Colombia and Bolivia, and had problems when the USC was not present at the interview. The problems were easily solved when the USC went down and showed up for a second interview. Having heard those stories, and wanting to head off any problems before they surfaced, I decided it was worth making the trip down for the interview. I don't know what the interview would have been like if I had not been there, but with both of us there, it was a piece of cake. They didn't ask for any evidence of the bona fide nature of our relationship -- the most personal question they asked us was "¿Cuál era la fecha de su boda?"

Not only does your presence demonstrate that the two of you can communicate, but it helps dispell possible doubts on other issues regarding the bona fide nature of your relationship. However, your presence is NOT required. She should be prepared with plenty of evidence of the bona fide nature of your relationship if you don't show up in person, though.

Well, the CO will ask your fiancée "Y uds. cómo se comunican si ud. no habla inglés? Él habla español?" All she has to say is "Sí señor/señora". That's it, no big deal.

There is no problem that your fiance does not speak English. It is not necessary that she does in order to be granted the visa. As it was said, she'll only need to mention that you speak English.

My fiance doesn't speak English so he was interviewed in Portuguese - which is most common. I was with him and I greeted the CO in Portuguese so he noticed right away that I speak my fiance's language. He talked to me in English and to my fiance in Portuguese.

I spoke only English with the CO until I showed him our pictures - at that point my fiance and I both spoke - in Portuguese.
