Donald Trump has a problem appealing to female voters.

So, when asked this week by a Nevada television station about some of his disparaging remarks, he had a terse reply.

"A lot of that was done for the purpose of entertainment," Trump said. "There's nobody that has more respect for women than I do."

Following last week's presidential debate, in which Hillary Clinton castigated Trump for his comments about a Miss Universe winner whom he called "Miss Piggy" after she gained weight and "Miss Housekeeping" for her Latina roots, his support among women has declined, according to polls.

An NBC News/Survey Monkey poll taken after the debate showed 27% of likely female voters said the debate made them think worse of Trump. About 30% said their opinion of Clinton had improved.

Throughout the campaign, Trump's poll numbers among women have been far from stellar. Clinton and her Democratic allies have hammered him in television and radio ads for his caustic comments that date back to the 1980s.

Last year, after Trump faced tough debate questions from Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, he speculated that it was because she was menstruating.

Trump, who has also referred to actress Rosie O'Donnell as a "pig," defended himself during the debate with Clinton.

"Hillary is hitting me with tremendous commercials. Some of it I said in entertainment, some of it said to somebody who has been very vicious to me, Rosie O'Donnell," Trump said. "I said very tough things to her and I think everybody would agree she deserves it and nobody feels sorry for her."

Donald Trump doesnt have many demographic allies left, but theres one group that still loves him: white guys without college degrees. Theyre bananas for him. According to an ABC News/Washington Post poll conducted post-debate, white guys are the force keeping Trumps campaign from collapsing into flaccidity. Being as Donald as possible in the final weeks before the election is a Hail Mary pass designed to get his most ardent fans to the polls.

If Trump is to have any shot on Election Day, hes got to get white guys without college degrees to show up by keeping them motivated, and he keeps them motivated by keeping them angry over the slights responsible for their condition. The appeal of The Donald is that hes Just Like Them. Hes so Just Like Them that if it wasnt for the elites and the blacks and the Mexicans and the over-prepared, Hillary-esque women challenging the rightful order of things, they would occupy their own Trump-like throne in a gilded penthouse. Alpha male boorishness should work for them the way it worked for Donald. They should have it; they deserve it; the world has robbed them. Theyre angry that they didnt live a Trumpy life of romancing and discarding socialites and models, angry that their final prize for simply existing in a world that respected them in the way they deserve wasnt their very own Melania. That they are, statistically, losers is not their fault; its the worlds fault.

Haha haha haha haha haha haha haha! *Belated laughter at what I misinterpreted as misogynist and sexist and racist and boorish Rump statements that until this extravagantly, really terrific, positively the best explanation was offered.
