I would still do this ASAP because the financial hole will just keep getting deeper and deeper without the possibility of work and it taking a little while to catch up from unemployment.

If it were me, I'd get married in a courthouse (in Colorado you can actually just marry on your own as a couple as well), file with the co-sponsor immediately, and then have the ability to work within months. I wouldn't push it out.

Agree you have limited savings which will be gone in no time, you need to file asap so you can work.

filing AOS with a co-sponser doesnt make you look bad so dont worry about that allot of people use co-sponsers... The AOS doesnt need to be filed with the 90days it can be delayed... USCIS prefer's you to file within those 90days but its not a requirement the ONLY requirement is to get married within those 90days... You still need to make filing your AOS a priority either way... I came here on a k1 in 2010 and i just filed my AOS in april 2016.. Dont wait aslong as me to file but i would definately aim to file within 6months from entry to a year at the most... If he lost his job and cant pick up another fairly fast then i would recommend using the co-sponser and filing your AOS ASAP cause after roughly 75-90 days after you submitting your AOS concurrently with your EAD you can use your EAD to get a job

Agreed. Go with court house or county office marriage. My husband and I did that, it was less than $50 total and that included certified copies of the marriage license/certificate.

We went to Arapahoe County office in Littleton and able to get married and copies within 45 minutes. No hassle just husband and I. Self-solemnization is legal in Colorado and recognized by Federal.

Have a ceremony later, take care of necessities first.

Denver is good market for jobs right now.

Tell your fiance to take a look at governmentjobs.com for Colorado. May not be what he wants but lots of jobs that would meet poverty level income to get past the hurdle.

And do not delay in filing for AOS takes longer to get legal job. File for employment permit, advanced parole and etc all at once. Can include in one packet versus paying for things separately. (Please verify this, I only know this from reading VJ forums.)

If you message me, I would be happy to give you name of a temp agency who had me in job by Monday morning when I applied the previous Friday afternoon.

Nothing wrong in taking temp agency jobs to establish US employment history.

Good luck.

I recommend, not leaving UK and get yourself embroiled into unknown country/city with no job, fiance with no work (and limited savings), finding sponsor etc. Absolutely, you can take a leap of faith but also try to get job/interviews lined up.

Even if you have a low-paying job as you pointed out. You are self-sufficient. However, you do not want to be in situation where you cannot find a stable employment in US and already lost your job in UK. Maybe try to go on leave of absence so that you return to UK in your old job if you don't get yourself acquainted here in US.

The market in Colorado is booming. For example, my home would cost 100k more to buy than it did a few years ago because so many people are moving here. Because people are moving here, there are lots of jobs, plenty of used vehicles.and while they're more expensive, places to rent.

I do not agree with squareleg. I agree with everyone that says to move here, get married ASAP, (which you can do on your own at the DMV), then have your MIL be your joint sponsor. This will make it so you can start working sooner vs later. Right now is a GREAT time to be here since seasonal hiring is starting and with a job offer, you can often get your EAD expedited. Soon all the ski hills will be open too (it was snowing up there today) which means even more employment opportunities.

You're worrying too much and over thinking it. I agree with the others. In your situation it probably benefits your marriage to get married and file for aos immediately. You have the cash to do so. That way you can get working and help out in about 3 months. Use your future mother in law if your fiance doesn't find ankther job in the next couple weeks. It is absolutely no problem with USCIS if you use a cosponsor.

She cannot do that with a K1. No one is gonna set up an interview with her until she is stateside, let alone consider hiring here without AOS being filed and the EAD being due to received imminently. She has neither a legal status nor a work permit until that occurs...

Best plan of action has been laid out already. USC fiance keeps searching for new job, will hopefully find one soon. UK fiancee comes over in October, they do a quickie courthouse wedding and file AOS immedately using the mother as a co-sponsor. UK fiancee/wife will then get a work permit 90d after filing and can find a job herself. If they are lucky, by that time both of them are working and off to a good start in the US...

Does unemployment count as earned income when filing the AOS? Is it possible to result in denial because it is not a stable income. I have been working over the past 6 years and was just recently laid off?

This is a small bump. It will not look bad to have a co-sponsor. Something is vital to your AOS is to have bills in both your names (like cable, utility, leases and taxes) make sure you file as Married, jointly or separately but the Married part is very important. It will matter if you try to get your citizenship at the three year mark instead of five year.
