Damn, that's so rude! I hope I could have been acting as calm as you did! Basically the lady told me too that most of the visa applicants think they're doing it wrong but verifying just takes a while. I can understand, knew this could be a total hassle. I thought for a second they wouldn't let me do it but she said even if the verification didn't go through, they would put it on hold.

Well.. my thought was also.. I know who you voted for, so I also know that there is no arguing with alternative facts ;)

Yeah, I found it incredibly rude.. at first she is telling me ppl assume things about them, and then she goes ahead and assumes the hell out of all immigrants hahahaha

Nope.. not at all. DMV lady just checked my I-94 and told me to come back once I have my EAD/GC.

Well, since you are also in Texas it will be very interesting to see what my response will be once the check is done then. At least we will be able to give better advice to future Texans :)

lol nvm I looked at the local you're in Caliiii hahahaha

I already would have told her to cash me ousside, howbowdah? They even asked how I met my husband, they were very sweet ladies but I can understand the difficulties of this kind of stuff. She eventually told me she knew you can run an alien number through the database. I wish this was a reason to expedite an EAD. Yea... it sucks, but I assume it's cause there'd be too many expedites lol

The lady that put in my info was very nice.. she put in the information in SAVE, that's all I can ask really.

She had me look at the screen to make sure it was all correct. Yea they can enter an A-number but they get up a list of documents (she showed me the drop down menu) they have to choose from. That document you are presenting to them has to be on the list and include the number you want them to run. The NOA1 is not on that short-list but the last option on the list is "Other" cause according to the full list, there are a number of other documents that should be accepted as well. I found the full list on the Texas DMV website and that did include "i-797". It didn't say i-797C, but in the explanation next to the document it said: "These are people that have applied to become legal residents." I had all this printed out with me lol

I followed the advice on this forum and applied for SSN with my maiden name before we got married as soon as I entered the US (Aug '16) - no problems, and as soon as we were married (Sept '16) I went back to change to my married name using a certified marriage certificate. When I went to DMV the first time I only had my i-94 (which was expired) so I had to go back a second time with my latest NOA letter stating I have an AOS interview coming up next week - proving my lawful presence here I guess. Once it was all run through the system, it verified and the lady said it all checked out with USCIS and there were no issues - wrote the written test and DL in hand within the week.

My AP/EAD was still in processing at that time.

I know it's too late now but I strongly stress the SSN as soon as you enter the US to anyone I speak with. I've gotten "oh good you have a SSN!" a lot, even at banks etc when we were opening joint accounts before we were married. Before the name change and AOS complication starts it's good to get it out of the way.

It was done while I was sitting at the window in the DMV. I was there well over an hour by the time it was all said and done but as she was doing her computer work she stopped and said "oh good! it all checks out with USCIS and it's all good." She had immigrated herself on a K1 a while ago so perhaps that's why she was patient. It was TONS of paperwork for her and she had to check with her supervisor to see if they would give me an expiry date a year from the last NOA date (beginning of Jan) - which they did. She said when I get my green card to come back and they will extend it.

I have a very similar timeline and story to you and followed the guidelines here in VJ.  Got SSN as soon as I arrived in Sep, card arrived within a week, went back as soon as we were married later in the month, showed my marriage certificate and received my new card within a week.  Once papers for adjustment etc were filed and I had the NOA's I went along to DMV, they had to check with head office and I was there around an hour but they were extremely helpful and everything was terrified, too my written test straight away and went back later in the day for the driving test.  License was issued for a year and I was told to go back once the GC was issued to make it a permanent one.   AOS came through at 97 days so over normal processing times but I stressed enough in the visa stage so just going with the flow at this point.

Did anybody get EAD approved recently? I still have not heard anything, so I wonder if I should put another SR (I did put in one two weeks ago and got reply "Your case is currently under review.  You should receive a decision or notice of other action shortly")...

I wanted to let everybody know that I got the letter from the DMV today and my lawful presence is verified. Yayyy! So tomorrow I'll go take the written test :D

This means that the NOA1 from AOS is an accepted document! Cause my i-94 is expired and I haven't yet gotten my EAD. I should have done this ages ago, instead of worrying so much.
