Hello Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum. We're about to start the K1 Visa process, planning on submitting in December! I'm from Scotland and my fiance is from New York! When I move over there it is my understanding that it takes about 3 months to get your work authorization from when you submit your adjustment of status paperwork, therefore we were just thinking of what I can do during that time. Does anybody know if you are able to study whilst in the middle of this process, I've already got a BA Honors in Marketing, but I was considering going back to Community College for a Semester to take a management course or something of that nature - to keep me occupied until I can begin working? Also for this community college if you are a permanent resident it is cheaper - would i be considered permanent resident whilst the adjustment of status paperwork is processing... Any information would be very much appreciated! Thank you in advance

In general to get in state rates in NY, you need to be a resident of the state for 1 year prior to starting school

There's unfortunately no generic answer to that. Some schools will accept you, others will not. You are not considered a permanent resident until you have the green card. Some schools might be willing to consider you as a resident for tuition purposes based on your husband/wifes residency. Contact the admissions office of the schools you're looking at to get some more information.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.
