A Real Success Story

If you really want to see a success story then observe and learn from Singapore. Singapore obtained independence from Great Britain during the '60s and then was severed (forced out) of Malaysia. It is a multi-cultural society roughly equally divided: Indian (Hindu), Malaysian (Moslem) and Chinese. They were a virtual city-state and all alone in the world to face the future.

The newly formed government under the leadership of the Prime Minister visited Great Britain to study their system of housing and caring for their people. They also studied the United States to observe how they had taken care of their people.

Conclusion: they rejected these attempts at "welfare". They rejected the "housing projects for the poor" that had become breeding grounds of poverty, crime and illegitimate birth. (This same "failure" Howard Dean has recently apologized for publicly as "misguided" attempts by his party.)

Instead, the Singaporean government placed high importance on ownership of housing. All government sponsored "high-rise" housing structures were to be SOLD to its citizens. The Singaporean government also stressed the importance of work on its citizens. Singapore became a major industrial entity through the positive efforts of its government - obtaining virtual "full-employment" of its citizens.

Singapore has become a symbol of success in South East Asia without either Communism or "Liberalism".
