Hi all!

So we are getting married in 3 weeks and hoping to send our I-130 packet soon after that. I am wondering if I should put my last name as my married name or my maiden one. I will be changing last names but i do not know long it will take to get a new passport with my new name.

Do you recommend just sticking with maiden name until all documents are changed or just filling out forms with my spouse's last name?

thank yoU!

You can only use your current legal name, not one that you plan on adopting. Good luck! :)

I'm using my maiden name still but I haven't returned home yet I married aboard and did dcf. Use the name that matches with all your identification. Also in my summary letter I said that I planned to change to my husband last name legally once I returned to the states

I love my husband ?‍?‍?

Not sure if this is possible for you but my wife went through the process of a name change prior to our wedding. It was in the UK and she is a UK citizen. She was able to apply for a name change on her passport up to I believe 6 months before our wedding, the passport just wasn't valid until our wedding day. We did that and had our I-130 mailed the day after our wedding (Just made a copy of our marriage certificate, had our vicar sign something and then closed the package and away it went). We also used it to go on honeymoon the next day.

Not sure if Panama has something like that, but you could look into it. She changed her name on other things (credit cards etc...) later. If i remember correctly as long as the passport has the name on it you can use that for all of the I-130 paperwork (though obviously whenever it asks if you have had any other names we added her maiden name).

A lot of people use their married name on the forms before they have a chance to legally change it completely and this is okay. Eventually the visa will be issued in passport name and green card in visa name. So if you want to use the married name, get it changed asap, but it's okay to use the married name on your forms until you can do this.
