My wife filed her AOS in Sept/2015 and she was approved without an interview May of this year. We filed 3 K2 AOS for 3 of my step children in Feb/2016 and we haven't heard from them since receiving their AP and EAD in May. Their case finally received an update for an interview. Our attorney was pretty surprise why the three children received an interview with 3 different time slot for the same day.

Both our attorney and I were under the impression that this would be easily approved for the K2 since my wife was approved already.

So we're hoping someone could shed some light for us.

1. Has anyone ever experienced this?

2. Kids are 9y/o, 14 y/o & 16 y/o - what could they possibly ask them that we should make sure the kids knows the answers to. I mean they are kids and won't really remember the details of our marriage and how we meet and all.

3. Has anyone been to Newark Field Office - how are the IO there?

And btw... If you're wondering why we didn't adjust them the same time as my wife. Well it comes down to COST. At the time we adjusted for my wife, she was pregnant to our twin girls. So we had to wait the following year until I received my bonus to file for the rest of our kids.

At my stepson's (K2) AOS interview, the IOs questions seemed to focused on whether the child knew the adults, where he was living, etc. If I were going to make a guess, I would suspect that due to all of the current issues and news stories about international human and child trafficking, the IO will likely focus on that line of questioning, and anything else they deem of interest.

BTW, you are preaching to the choir about costs associated with the immigration process. Anyone immigrating with children have had similar concerns. It is a definite money pit from the get-go, but the positive benefits far outweigh the negatives.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Thanks Pitaya! That's what our attorney was mentioning that this might be just to go through the formalities and all.

And yes, from the start, this whole immigration process has been a leach on my pockets! But yes, the positive far outweighs the negatives.

Cheers!

I just read that tread and its very insightful and I do recall reading that before when I initially posted a similar question. Thank you for this! I'll keep everyone updated on our interview.

Today was the day!

Wanted to update everyone on our kids K2 AOS visa since there isn't much discussion on K2 AOS interview here on VJ.

Wife, myself, and kids went to the interview for the kids' K2 AOS interview. They were nice enough to group them all as opposed to taking them one by one. We were also allowed to sit in the interview. The interview was very straight forward and pretty quick - roughly 25 mins. The reason the kids were scheduled an interview was to find out why we didn't process the kids AOS along with my wife all at once last year. This was obviously a simple question and it came down to $$$$ and I had to wait to get more money to file for their AOS. The rest of the questions was directed to the kids asking for their, name, DOB, address and the questionnaire from the I-485. After that, the officer said they were approved and interview ended and went home :)
