I was able to get mine done at my local GP. just walked in, booked an appointment and had the vaccinations that were required for AOS. I had previously had Chicken Pox so no need for the vaccination, just make sure the DS3025 states that clearly before you leave Kinghtsbridge.

Hi there,

What did you say when booking your appointment? did you specifically ask when you called up to have X, Y and Z vaccines and they booked you an appointment to perform them?

I don't know how to approach calling my doctors and asking for them..

Many thanks,

Megan

Hi there,

Did you have them done already on the NHS or did you request to have them done for this reason?

Hi Megan

I had the flu jab done at no cost by the GP because I have epilepsy so I "qualified" for a free flu jab. I had never bothered to have it done in the past but decided to use the opportunity this time to save money! You only need that one if you move here during flu season (the winter).

The MMR I just asked for and got it. I had a great GP in the U.K. although the rest of the staff in the surgery were not so good. I made an appointment with the GP and he put a note on my file that he was authorizing the MMR for me at no charge. I went to the reception desk to make the appointment and the conversation went something like this:

me: I'd like to make an appointment for an MMR vaccine, please

her: For your child?

Me: No, for me. I don't have any children.

Her: So why do you need an MMR?

Me: For immigration. Please see the note on my file from Dr XXXX

her: well, we don't give MMRs to adults just because they want to live overseas. This is the NHS and cover necessary things only.

me: it is necessary. And I am well aware how the NHS works, having paid into it most of my adult life. Please can you make the appointment that I asked for. Or you can speak to Dr XXXX.

She called the doctor, spoke to him for a minute.

her: How about Thursday at 10 am?

In the end I didn't have the Tdap one at Knightsbridge either but my visa was marked with an annotation that I hadn't had all vaccines. It wasn't a problem at all.

Thanks for the advice. I think I may be met with some resistance too. My GP surgery says they're not sure if they do MMR and say I'll have to pay for the flu jab in flu season. I'm waiting for a call back!

If your GP won't give you the vaccinations you need Boots, Tesco or most chemists do them & they don't cost a great deal.  The flu jab isn't free unless you are in specific categories ( over 65, pregnant or have long term qualifying medical condition) :)

Everything crossed for a smooth and stress free journey
