Vaccinations for K-1 Fiance Applicants

Hello Everyone,

It states that vaccinations are not required for K-1 visa issuance...just when applying for AOS. However, does not having vaccinations impede or in any way affect the way the medical or interview might go? Is it looked at negatively if vaccinations are not done at the time of the interview? Thank you!

Since you'll be needing them for AOS anyway - why not just get them? Being from the UK, you probably have most of them already?

The doctor may grant a vaccine waiver for vaccines that are contraindicated due to pregnancy or other health related concerns. The embassy won't argue with that.

Hi There!

No, there's more to it than that. I'm the petitioner and my fiance in London is not originally from London and may not have all the vaccinations required...he said they state they need vaccinations from birth. It's also very expensive to get all of the vacinnations and it will be hard for him at this time.

Someone else might input on the medical procedure in London and the potential for being approved without completing the vaccinations.

However, I will say that the vaccination costs are minor compared to the overall K1+AOS cost, and also likely to be cheaper to get while in the UK (instead of waiting until he is stateside).

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

I have had MMR and flu jab done on the NHS for no cost.

The only other one you need is tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis combo vaccine. This is difficult to get on the NHS as the NHS supplies are reserved for pregnant women only. So I am paying for this one at Knightsbridge for £45. That's a lot but in the grand sceheme of things it's a drop in the bucket.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

I was able to get mine done at my local GP. just walked in, booked an appointment and had the vaccinations that were required for AOS. I had previously had Chicken Pox so no need for the vaccination, just make sure the DS3025 states that clearly before you leave Kinghtsbridge.

I was advised at my visa medical that i would need a tetnus booster for AOS stage but it could be waived for K1 entry. Thinking I was being clever and saving myself the expense of getting the vaccination at Knightsbridge, (I think it was around 35GBP) I chose to defer and then visited my local doctors surgery the following week to get the booster on the NHS free of charge and got them to print out a copy of my vaccination records to bring with me to the USA to prove at AOS stage that I had he required vaccines. - I had been told by the medical centre that this would be fine as proof that I met the requirements.

However, I wasn't advised at that time that choosing to defer my vaccine, the up to date tetnus booster wasn't on my DS3025, meant that i needed to visit a civil surgeon in the US to fill out another medical document and transcribe my up to date vaccination records onto this document.

Trying to find a civil surgeon who will transcribe the vaccines without insisting on conducting a complete new medical (that would need to be paid for by you, despite knowing full well that K visa applicants do not need a second medical so long as their first one is dated within a year) was a nightmare.

I finally found one who would do it, but he also insisted on a TB skin test and blood test for syphalis...costing me a total of $300. :(

So yeah, if you are advised during your medical at Knightsbridge that you need a vaccine, just save yourself the time, hassle and money and just get it done while you are there. :)

I second Matt&Sophie, however apparently Knightsbridge is notorious for a) trying to avoid giving you vaccinations and b) forgetting to mark them "Complete" if you do get them. So my recommendation is to try and get those vaccinations from your GP BEFORE your medical appointment.

Ugh...thank you for this information! Definitely something to watch out for. Do you happen to know when they complete the form? Is it something that is done right at the appointment, where they can just be reminded to mark complete on the form? But anyway, I believe that he will get vaccinations from his GP before the medical appointment. It's just that at the medical appointment, they can tell you which ones are needed, right?

Sincerely,

Jackie

Wow, thank you so much for all of this information. I wasn't able to get this information to my fiance until today. We read through it and your response was extremely informative. We truly appreciate it!!! And so sorry you had to go through that nightmare of an experience. We were considering just waiving the vaccinations until he gets here but after reading your post, he'll just do it over there. Thank you again for saving us all that unforeseen trouble!!!

Sincerely,

Jackie

Hi there,

Getting them to mark anything ''complete'' is a near impossible task. My husband attempted twice in argument, and recalls another individual there that day in quite a heated argument and they would not budge about it. I would certainly advise to check over the form once you receive it, and make sure they have everything listed correctly. Whether they mark it ''complete'' or not is an entirely different matter. A while back they changed things so that you may now receive a second page stating ''complete'' (if you do not receive it be sure to ask or I have seen people retrieve it by emailing them later on). Whether the second page being marked complete for AOS purposes later on is helpful I don't know. I don't know if there have been enough reports using the second page of the form successfully as of yet. Certainly our old form (not the two-page version) was not good enough for the USCIS for our AOS, and they required us to go to a US civil surgeon to obtain a new vaccination sheet. This may or may not happen to anyone regardless of if they have ''complete'' marked or not. It can be down to USCIS stupidity, the officer not understanding the procedure for a K1, the medical is lost, or the medical is delayed. Yes, keep that in mind, even if Knightsbridge marks down the form correctly the USCIS could still needlessly require you to get a new form come AOS time.

At the very least though, obtaining the vaccinations ahead of time will save you some extra time, money, and hassle. Knightsbridge is expensive as is, the vaccinations there are more so. And if you chose to do the vaccinations stateside, a civil surgeon will charge whatever they please and they don't care how ridiculous the price. If the USCIS should require a new vaccination sheet later on, finding a civil surgeon willing to do just a transcription can be a task.

oooooh...oh boy....

Quick question slightly unrelated...my fiance is now in the process of getting passport pics. I told him he needed 4 UK passport pics for his medical. Can you confirm this? The website doesn't specify https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/iv-photo-html/

Thank you so much!

Hi there,

Did you have them done already on the NHS or did you request to have them done for this reason?

I don't know how to approach calling my doctors and asking for them..

Many thanks,
