Hi All,

I'm in the process of sorting out my required AOS vaccinations ahead of my Knightsbridge medical in a few weeks and I'm struggling to satisfy the varicella requirement. I had chickenpox as a child but it wasn't serious enough to go to the GP so there is no mention of it on my medical records. I've asked for the jab at my GP practice but they say that the varicella jab isn't something that is given out in the UK unless I am a high-risk patient so they can't do it for me.

Does anyone have any advice to offer on this?

Many Thanks,

Dan

Get a blood test to show you are immune to it and therefore don't need the shot.

The doctor just asked me if I had have it and my son too and we both did and she crossed it off and that was it.

It's only for his school we had to prove that he was immune since I refused that he should have the shot.

So I think you'll be fine.

Great thanks, so should I request the blood test from my GP, or would that be something that they will do at the medial in Knightsbridge?

Thanks,

Dan

I spoke to my GP they said the same thing that they don't give the vaccination unless high risk. Also told me i would have to pay for the blood screening as it was for immigration reasons. They don't do the test at knightsbridge i believe. Make sure you speak to the vaccination nurse and tell her you have had chickenpox, they didn't even let me speak to her at my medical as i was all up to date on vaccinations but they still didn't mark off varicella so looks like i will have to get it done in the states, emailed knightsbridge after i noticed it wasn't checked when i got home from medical and basically told me tough luck.

Only people that give that vaccination in UK are travel vaccination clinics.

Don't worry about chicken pox vaccine for the London embassy. This vaccine is not routinely available in the U.K anyway - we just let our kids get spotty and deal with it! Knightsbridge doctors will just mark your form accordingly. They won't even test immunity if you say you've had the pox as a child. They will just take your word for it.

That's how it was in Denmark too.

Thanks! Is that just for the K-1 approval though, or will that satisfy the AoS too?

I don't know. I'm not doing K-1 or AOS. But I am doing IR-1 which is permanent residency upon arrival so if it's good enough for that it must be good enough for AOS as they amount to the same thing.

I got a copy of a page from my medical records showing I'd had shingles as a teen (which means I must have had chicken pox). I took this to the Knightsbridge medical but they didn't seem that interested in it, and just seem to take your word for it if you say you had chicken pox as a kid.

I had no problems doing AOS

You don't need a blood test or immunity test. Knightsbridge will take your word for it on chicken-pox. Chances are if they were really bothered to look, the scars from it would be on your body somewhere anyway.
