I am facing the same kind of situation. I saw that Mauritius does not process immigrant visa which is handled by the U.S Consulate General Johannesburg, South Africa. This is a bit complicated for me as i will be facing a financial problem.Its an additional cost to fly and stay over in South Africa.Is there a better way the U.S Embassy in Mauritius can help ? I guess there might be or might have been people facing the same situation who cannot travel to South Africa , how did they do ?

Unfortunately you have to travel to South Africa. I think most people try to just schedule everything close together the medical and the interview. Check out gumtree.co.za and try to find somewhere to stay that isn't to expensive.

 

You can either try and have the medical ready for the interview and when you book the medical state that you are from Mauritius and you are waiting it out in South Africa. It may or may not be ready for the interview.

 

Or you can wait and have the medical completed when you arrive for your interview.
