Hello

Can anyone tell us about how long it takes to get the k1 from the joburg embassy (assuming all is in order etc)? My fiance is very concerned about having to go there because 1. Its expensive for her/us (she is from namibia) 2. She has a job that wont let her take off long 3. She has a son and joburg dangerous

We are both concerned. Is there a way around staying in joburg for long periods (more than 4-5 days)? Thanks

If you filled in your timeline and completed your profile page to include your country (and type of visa) your question/post could be directed to the appropriate country portal where others working with the same embassy can respond. Your question is embassy specific.

It just depends but it shouldn't take more than 4-5 days.

She can have it DLH to her in Namibia or wait for her packet in South Africa.

thank you kindly.

Wouldnt she be forced to stay in S Africa and wait for the visa? I mean they need her passport right? How can she return to namibia if they hold on to her passport for the visa? Thanks

If everything goes smoothly it really should not take that long to get the visa. If you are concerned about cost there are so housing options that don't cost that much and are safe in the area. There really isn't that much you can do. Just have a good packet to give to the Embassy.

hello

we are just not sure about one thing: we were told it takes 4-5 days on average for the visa but we were wondering if its possible for her to do the interview and then return home to namibia and have the visa shipped to her house. This way, she doesnt miss too much work. However, we were thinking that they would need to hold on to her passport so she cant return...

When is her interview? She can get her passport right back after interview and go back to Namibia, then DHL the passport back to the embassy for them to process the visa.

but you can also plead with the CO to have it ready the next day and they are quite understand at Johannesburg consulate...I had my visa&packet ready next day after interview.

Will she do the medical during the same trip?

My now husband travelled from Mauritius to Johannesburg for his medical and K-1 interview. So for him it took 23 days total, he arrived in SA the day before his medical and left for the US the day after getting his visa. He had to do the medical in South Africa, there was no option of doing it in Mauritius.

After the interview, it took 11 days for his passport to be returned.

He got a rental on Airbnb and took ubers everywhere but it was still so expensive.

good luck!

yes she will do same trip.

Wow 23 days? Holy cow thats long time. I hope my poor fiance does not need to stay in joburg for weeks. This will likely deter her from even going through with this. She is already stressed. She also wants to keep her job and taking off all that time will make her lose it. Jeez this immigration stuff is a mess

How is she going to keep her job if she is planning to come to the? The immigration experience is stressful but 1000% worth it if.
