My fiance (the beneficiary) and I are trying to determine what is best: to pick up the visa at a nearby depot or to have it delivered to his house? I know there's a cost for having it delivered directly to his house (about $30), and it's free to pick it up, but does anyone know if one way is faster than the other? I assumed having it delivered to his house would take a day or two longer than having it sent to a depot. And I know a day or two in the grand scheme of things doesn't seem like that big of a deal, but we're really hoping, as I'll be there attending the interview with him, that he'll be able to fly back with me. So a day or two may make or break that.

Also, his only form of government-issued identification is his passport, which will be in the visa packet. If he picks it up at the depot, will he need to provide photo ID to pick up the package? If so, that obviously means we'll have to opt for home-delivery.

This is a UK-specific question. He'll be attending the interview in London. I do realize that there are time frame differences even when everyone chooses the same method, so it's difficult to make any kind of accurate guess, but we're going to try. Basically this is going to be like trying to land a space shuttle on the back of an airplane...

Thanks in advance!

It's funny... I've looked at that list before for the amounts of time, but I never noticed they also listed whether it was depot or delivery! Thanks!!

They do seem about the same. I do also believe that someone mentioned previously you have to show ID to pick up the package from the Depot. A driver's license is sufficient, but if he doesn't have that, then I would opt for the home delivery to be safe!

Just to confirm, he will still need photo ID for home delivery. Having just gone through the process, i chose Home Delivery and i received my passport and Package 7 days later.

*sigh* <-- regarding the photo ID

Yay! for it only taking 7 days! It seems to be 7 to 10 days for the visa to arrive, with the occasional one taking much longer. Thanks for the info!

Apparently you do not necessarily need Photo Id. you can have any of the following:

Official or State issued Identification card (with photo)

Official drivers license (with photo)

Birth Certificate

Debit or Credit Card

Two Utility Bills

I was told Photo ID when i called DX group, however that doesn't appear to be the case.

One thing that i did find frustrating was that when it says visa issued, when you get the email to say your passport is ready you then have to book an appointment for home collection. Had i have known i would have done it and got my visa one day earlier.

Sorry for asking for clarification, but I want to understand what you mean...

You found out later that DX would allow you to schedule when they'd deliver your visa to your home and you could have received it a day earlier?

Thanks for the other info too!

iI paid the additional 18 GBP for home delivery. Once my CEAS status went to issued i received an email from the US Embassy saying my visa application package was picked up and they gave me a tracking number. I then assumed i would receive an email or a status update as to when it would be delivered, however all it says when you login to the tracking system is 'rebook for delivery'. This threw me as i hadn't actually booked a delivery slot, i assumed i would be given one. I waited one day then i went online and went through the 'rebooking' page and that was when it gave me a date and time for delivery.

Had i of known this i would have done it all one day earlier. I think its just the wording that is sometimes confusing.
