I know it's frustrating, and irritating. It happens with USCIS. They only process in the order they come in, in that they cash your check and put your information into a file. After that, it seems to go all to pieces, and some people get processed faster than others do, even if they did have an earlier filing date.

I was wondering about that... Because if I go according to that table, they've now reached May 7th 2016!  Though, I have to admit that was since Nov....

I just thought it was completely messed up to see others filing after me getting interviews scheduled before me

To be fair, that's because we only see it from a timeline point of view - we don't see the reasons behind. There can be any number of reasons why one file can appear to be processed faster than another. I used to see that a lot when we were at the I-129F stage, eventually I stopped worrying about it because it doesn't speed up our own case

Honestly I was fine just having my permanent residency status but then after we purchased a home we decided that I should have my citizenship

Oh boy. Do I remember that. We filed for the 129F in July 2008. I was really annoyed to see a couple that hadn't even MET until September 2008 get approved and sent to her consulate overseas!  But, as you say, there are a hundred thousand variables as to why, and in the end, all I could do was congratulate them. And then? Then we got stuck at NVC for the best part of 2 months for AP. For the sake of my own sanity, I had to stop worrying about it. Sheesh.

I guess there are  many reason why people go all the way through to filing the N400. I know the election in November had lots of people filing in the start of the year, hoping to be done in time to vote.

I went to both of the places I call home last year. I've been gone from Canada since the 80's, and I left NZ 8 years ago. I had the very strong sense that I don't 'come' from either of them anymore. So for me, it was more you are where you are, and you need to BE from here. Get on with it. So, I did

That's exactly the same as my feeling - I don't want to be a foreigner indefinitely, so if I'm staying here (even for a while) then I want to be part of the place, I want a voice, I want to be able to vote etc.
