Would you be open to working from home, or via telephone? Some kind of job that doesn't require you being in an office? Lots of communication companies need people for support or customer service. It's not always fun, but having a job that doesn't require a commute could save you a lot of $$.

I agree with mollene, a classmate told me this morning she will start working from home as an amazon customer representative, I don't know much about details but is a part time job and they pay $11.0/h (not the best but it will help you through the holidays) here is the link:

Check with banks too. A teller position doesn't a lot, but you can generally move your way up and at least the hours tend to be really good.

Marrienne, you are not worthless. It is just a season which all immigrants go through. Nobody cared about my degrees at first but eventually they did start. I linked up with a temp agency who were able to find me entry level jobs in my field of accounting and that gave me experience that I needed. Now they come crawling to me. This will be you soon. Are you full time? I don't believe they can fire you under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). You should be allowed force majeure when you took your daughter to urgent care. Force majeure is taken if you have an immediate emergency to take care of a family member and you have no one else to take care of it. The best thing is to check with your employer about their policy before assuming they would fire you for taking care of your injured daughter.

i agree with the above post, if they fire you, go to a lawyer. gather lots of proof.

under FMLA act, you can win a lot of money in the court.

Oh I would LOVE being a secretary!!!

I know I know.. I am trying to keep my chin up. My mother in law keeps mentioning how poor we are and how we can't afford this or that and that I should leave the baby to them so I can go work (note: they are leaving for the winter in a week) and that now she is in a cast she doesn't really need to see anyone else and that she never missed a day of work and how she made her kids go to school hurt or sick regardless...

She made me feel like ####### (sorry).

I keep putting applications in but no takers yet.

Hope my baby is given the ok tomorriw as they suspect a second fracture

A good rule here is to call and speak with a manager a few days after you've put in your application. It lets them know you're serious and when I've done it in the past, some times they go ahead and schedule an interview!

I'm glad you still have your job!

Temp agencies can be good and bad.

Good is you will be placed in something you like pay is usually good....temp to hire alot of places.

Down side is if the employer wants to keep you they have to pay a fee for you (to temp agency). At least in Rhode Island they are like that.

Be careful signing any contracts (with temp agency) where if you found a job on your own something would be owed to them (temp agency) not all do but some do.

When im looking i find tons of jobs. I also am fluent in two languages. But I prefer to find on my own. But if your not sure what your looking for a temp agency may be good so you can try different jobs.

why would you move in Athens, Mi in the first place? you guys have to MOVE, period, there is no job opportunities there, my company is hiring , it would be an office job but you are too far away, otherwise i would be glad to help you out.
