Hi, can someone share their experience to those who have petitioned a person with disability. My 4yr old son whose been diagnosed to have a mild-autism have a 5yr old sister(normal) and is already in US together with his Mom. My wife is petitioning my son and we would like to know what would be the outcome of the visa interview. We already process some required documents like developmental-behavioral, but from what i've heard from someone with a same case but was travelling to Canada that the consular officer put hold on their petition since they require additional documents/requirements. Since my sons travelling to US and not in canada, does anyone here have been on the same situation as ours.

Can you share your experience so that we could have an idea on whats gonna happen. It is hard for a parent to know that their child has a disability. But its even harder for a parent to know that child is far away from his sister. Thank you and godbless my son and hope that he could be with his sister and mom as soon as possible and godbless those who are in the same boat as ours.

I'm a Diversity Lottery winner and my son has autism. For us, it didn't even register on the CO's face when he flipped through the medical and saw the diagnosis. I hope it's the same for you. We had brought documentation to show his diagnosis, school reports (to show he attends mainstream schooling), and a letter from his paediatrician. We were asked for none of it.

Canada is, unfortunately, wary of those with autism. I've heard many stories of people not being allowed to immigrate because the child has autism. In this respect, and in our experience, the US is streets ahead. Don't let Canada's treatment of autism put you off.
