I don't know your dates for your NOA1 but you can go for an i55i around a month before the expiration of your extension letter. As for appointments they refresh around midnight, its hard to get one if look during the day.  I dont think you were looking at the wrong version. So to confirm yes you should be able to get an i55i stamp. As far as CSC well they are currently taking around 14 months to process applications. They have slowed down to the point they have  nearly stopped. Hopefully soon they will start to play catch up.

Hi! Sorry I'm confused. You can get i 551 stamp one month before the expiration of an actual letter? I thought it goes by the expiration date of the green card. For example my letter dated 11 December, but my card expiration date is 27 January, so technically I'm in my extended status until 27 January, and I though I only can go get a stamp a month before that?

Im sorry I forget what your emergency for the stamp was.  Might be right about the extension letter for travel,  the subject is pinned above  an article by my friend @Derwood .. If you are leaving the country shortly and will be away a long time, you can get a stamp.  You would need to present  your travel itinerary in order for them to do it. I noticed a different thread from you, ,can you get an emergency walk in. The answer is yes/no, depends why you need. Say you're GC got stolen and you needed to travel urgently then yes , I knew one guy on here that happened too. He didnt have time to book an appointment before flying and was worried, could not get an appointment so walked in, gave his travel plans and why he needed the stamp and he got it. He posted about it, around April on here.

Honestly, I was thinking to travel without the stamp at all, travel dates : 19 November - 1 December and I thought it should be fine because my extention letter dated 12 December and expiration of the green card is on 27 January. Based on this  thread I had impression that I'm good to travel up until expiration date on my green card ( on extended status) however other people advised me to get a stamp instead since my travel is close to expiration of extention letter.

My office is extremely busy one, no chance I'd get appointment in next 2 weeks - so I was thinking about walking in with my plane tickets.

But, again,  @Derwood clearly stated that status is extended from the date on a green card - in my case it's 27 January, so I thought I'm ok to travel even though my letter is "expiring " on 11 December.

Now im so confused that starting to worry if I should travel at all...:(

If that what @derwood has said then you can travel, you don't need a stamp.  Sorry I was poorly last night and couldn't remember why you needed a stamp.  Then I saw you talking about an emergency stamp and I couldnt remember why you needed in the first place  I was too tired and poorly to scrawl back on your older posts.  You should be good to go if that what @Derwood  says on his pinned post.

People have pointed out that if there are any problems, they may be with the airline check-in personnel. That said, I'm very good at arguing, if it ever comes to that. Been in and out 3 times since my GC expired, and I have never had any issues, including returning on my own one of those times.

I've been traveling on extention letter twice on my owm. First time it was no problem to check in, the person knew exactly what's the letter is, but at POE I created a big line after me- it took some time for the officer to check something in computer, but he let me in without secondary eventually.

Second time they had to call a supervisor at the check in counter, but it got resolved quickly, and then at POE I ended up at secondary, which took about 15 mins - so based on my experience and others as well, traveling on extention letter is fine.

However I started to worry this time because my travel is that close to expiration of the letter ( arriving 11 days prior it's 1 year anniversary) but still over a month prior expiration of my status based on green card expiration date ( don't even know how better to put it together haha)

Really wanted to travel now while it's still valid and I already had experience using it and not bother getting a stamp whatsoever

I understand. Sorry to hear that.

As I mentioned, I did just that without issues, both at check-in desk AND port of entry (but I always go through the Global Entry line, so I'm not sure about any other one).

My Green Card expired 20th of Oct 2016 and my NOA expired 20th of Oct 2017. I came in via NY without issues (thank GOD) on the 18th of Oct 2017 , with my passport , expired green card and about to expire NOA (Short of two days to the expiry date) . At this point in time I did not have my I-551 stamp on my passport. I explained to the officer that CSC is delayed and still processing July cases and I had already made an Info pass appointment for my I-551 stamp.
