Venezuela's records suggest vote fraud

EX-OFFICIAL UNCOVERS IMPROBABLE PATTERN

By Steven Dudley and Phil Gunson

Knight Ridder

MARACAIBO, Venezuela - It was the 32nd birthday of 1,921 Gonzálezes registered to vote in the western state of Zulia on Wednesday. But instead of celebrating with balloons and cake, many Venezuelans have been shouting fraud.

Every one of these Gonzálezes obtained their first government ID -- and simultaneously registered to vote -- in 2004, just before President Hugo Chávez defeated a recall referendum. And many of them registered on the same day, at the same registration center.

The case is ``one for the Guinness Book of Records,'' said Roberto Ansuini, a former opposition representative on the National Electoral Council who stumbled on it while looking into the registry's reliability. He said the most Gonzálezes ever born on one day in one year in Venezuela is 89.

The González case in Zulia typifies the opposition's claims that the registry is full of fraudulent voters -- one of the reasons some parties boycotted the December legislative elections and may sit out the presidential elections late this year. Many say the case also shows fraud in the recall vote.

The birthday coincided with a European Union report Wednesday on the legislative elections -- which Chávez forces swept in part due to the opposition boycott -- applauding the Electoral Council for its preparation leading up to the vote, but criticizing its reliance on what the report considered an antiquated system to identify voters.

"It's difficult to deny that the electoral registry suffers from structural problems that date back many years,'' the EU report stated.

Electoral Council President Jorge Rodríguez said the council had investigated the Zulia Gonzálezes case and found no fraud other than 61 who turned out to be illegal immigrants. It remained unclear how they managed to get IDs and register to vote, and the lack of addresses in the voter registry makes it impossible to independently verify his claim.

Rodríguez argued that the Gonzálezes in Zulia were mostly naturalized foreigners. ``When people are naturalized, they are grouped together by registration center, and that's why there are sequential ID numbers,'' he told Knight Ridder.

Note: given the demographics of Venezuela;

  • the entire CURRENT population of Venezuela is about 26 million--and working backwards (Venezuela is NOT a decreasing-population country last I checked), it maybe had 15 million in 1972, which would yield (with an assumed sky-high fertility rate) maybe 1,200 births per day (about 36% less than the 1,921 of one name)
  • it is highly doubtful that 1,900+ people would apply for Venezuela naturalisation in one day (it exceeds the total one-day for US, UK and Canada--COMBINED)

So, it is quite transparent that this is fraud engineered by Hugo Chopf#ck Chavez!

not a surprise

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

But didn't Jimmy boy give the high five that all was good in the world with this election?

Proved about as accurate as his claim of being a nuclear physicist/engineer (when he actually knew about as much as I do on the nuclear field).

Jimmy high fives anything he gets to observe. He high fived the last "election" in Ethiopia that the European observers found to have failed any and all international standards. The Carter center has no credibility when it somes to observing elections.

There is a famous joke in France, that dead people of Corsica still vote  . It's been like that for generations ..... Looking near us, do you remember the recount in Florida? "every vote counts" (oh really? :hehe: )

I've never been to Venezuela, although I lived in Guyana almost all my life. I have cousins who live there in Caracas. Their son has moved to Spain where he is studying now (actually, I heard he won the Green Card Lottery last year!! So maybe I'll be seeing him soon?) Anyway, they've not been happy at all in regard to the economic and political situation over the past couple of years.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Basically, Carter was incompetent as a president--and just as incompetent at monitoring elections.

Most Americans who respected Carter's ideals in 1976 (??) certainly didn't by 1980 (when he got a clobbering on the scale that Liberals under Turner got four years later).

Interesting and sounds very fraudulent (the high number of Gonzaleses that is). I wonder what the European Union report cited had to say, though, other than that the voting registration system was antiquated and what the connection between the congressional elections to which the report was referring and the referendum is.

As to dead people voting, remember Chicago??
