Make sure you go to Borobudur if you havn't been there yet That's over at Yogyakarta stay at the Manohara right on the grounds. Wake up early people who stay can at the hotel can go up 1 hour earlier than the public. Very cool getting up there about 5am to watch the sunrise and burn off the fog surrounding the palm trees. Sometimes consulting an expert for visas might help. We tried getting a tourist visa for my wifes sister denied. If we had consulted a visa expert she would have got it. As they know not what to say and how to say it. They know how much money you need in the bank etc.

The visa experts are here! Not some local scammers who are more likely to get her in deep trouble.

Has anyone EVER heard of a woman successfully applying for a tourist visa? It seems impossible. I've heard that it sometimes takes 3 or 4 attempts, but is that even true? Its so frustrating! She has strong ties to country (children in school, a job, owns her own home, etc.) But they continue to say her ties aren't strong. What the...?

Yours truly ??

I was single, K1 visa PENDING, no kids no nothing. 5-year multiple entry granted, I came back to Indonesia accordingly after visiting my fiancè. That was my first attempt applying B2 visa.

She can try again, otherwise, come visit! Indonesia is a beautiful place to visit

Everyone's situation is different. As most would say about the Philippines and tourist visas, its usually a "No"; but my partner only was turned down a couple years back because he hadn't completed his 2 year home stay rule from a J-1 visa. Everything else was fine and good to the embassy, even had my letter saying I was inviting him as my boyfriend and I would pay for everything. Sometimes it's one little thing that could hold up the whole process.

Or could be from other stories I hear about embassies(which I hope is not true but wouldn't put it past them either), where it's almost like gambling like stated before. They literally approved every odd number person in the line and denied the even number people. #1 Approved, #2 Denied, #3 approved... and so on for like 50 people waiting for their interview for a tourist visa.

Keep trying though and yea, guess you're going to gain a lot more flier miles to Jakarta otherwise. But best of luck to both of you and stay strong!

Ermmm, how can you have a K-1 pending if you're single?

OP, sometimes it truly does seem like a gamble and a very lucrative one for US Gov Inc.

I've seen cases on here that I would have wagered my lifetimes wages would be denied get their visa and ones that I thought would be a slam-dunk approval get denied.

It all boils down to the personal opinion of the interviewing officer, not a great system but it's the only one we have. You might get an officer deny your visa one day and approve it the next depending on what their mood is that day, or if they've had their cup of coffee that morning! Not ideal, and you'd hope they'd never refuse or approve on a whim but they are only human.

Going by previous things I've seen on here local "visa experts" do little more than charge you money to advise you to lie or twist the information. Saw one a while back where the expert put them down as married to a person in their own country on the form so as to invent an extra tie to his homeland. You can imagine the trouble that chap had when he later went for a K-1 but couldn't produce the divorce papers from his fictitious marriage.

August 2000: We start e-mailing. I'm in Bosnia, she's in Florida

October 29th 2000: She sends me e-mail asking if I would marry her

October 29th 2000(5 seconds later): I say yes

November 2000: She sends me tickets to Orlando for when I get back

December 6th 2000: Return from Bos

December 11th 2000: Fly to Orlando, she meets me at airport

December 22nd 2000: I fly back to UK

January 3rd 2001: She flies to UK (Good times)

Mid February 2001: Pregnancy test Positive

Mid February 2001: She flies back to US

March 2001: Miscarriage, I fly to US on first flight I can get

May 2001: I leave US before my 90 days are up

June 2001: I fly back to US, stopped at airport for questioning as I had only just left

September 2001: Pregnancy test Positive again

September 2001: She falls sick, I make decision to stay to look after her as I am afraid I may have problems getting back in.

April 16th 2002: Our son is born, we start getting stuff together for his passport

March 6th 2003: We leave US for UK as family

Early April 2003: Family troubles make her return to US, I ask Embassy in London about possibilities of returning to US

April 16th 2003: London Embassy informs me that I will be banned from the Visa Waiver Program for 10 years, my little boys first birthday

June 13th 2006: I-129f sent

August 11th 2006: NOA1 Recieved

After our relationship breaks down she admits to me that she had never bothered to start the application process

I suppose we'll keep trying... it's like having a baby... gotta keep trying until you're successful. I've been to Jakarta 3 times so far, and yes, it's beautiful. The trick seems to be even getting the immigration officer to so much a look at any of her documents. It's almost as if the decision was made before she even arrived. And of course, talking with immigration helps very little. We will continue.... put another coin in the slot, pull the handle, and see if it comes up 7's... or lemons. Thanks for all of your input.

Key questions: how much $ does she make? How much does she have in savings? Does she own land? That really is what it often comes down to...

USMSBOW....

She makes around $40k per year... don't know the exact amount in savings, but she has some , she owns a home. But none of this matters because they have never even looked at any of the information that she brings. They ask her the reason for her visit, how long, if she has friends there, and truly, in about 5 mins, they have made the decision to deny. Very frustrating that they say she needs to bring documentation to prove strong ties to her country, but then they totally ignore them. Just trying to find the right combination here. She's been honest in all she's answered. I guess we're waiting for the combination of right officer, right day, good coffee, right color shirt....

She did not get it because she is going through a high fraud country consulate and wants to visit her American BF. The other factors would need to be impressive to counter.

Her answers are, tourism and to visit friends, and yes, he is my boyfriend. Here's another thing, too... she is still married.... separated for 5 years now. (Don't need relationship advice... we've got that part straightened out and are very honest about it all.) I would think that would be another "tie" to the country. She cannot divorce from another country and must be present in Indonesia to do so. She would need to return to finish the divorce, and is not the "live together" kind of woman. I understand what you're saying there, Boiler. Even with substantial, strong ties, the expectation of fraud is high. She is such a good woman and would never do anything illegal. It's just frustrating. I guess it's just time for another roll of the dice, hand over the money, and see what happens.
