J1 Visa down period

Hi there

I was wondering about the 2 year period you have to wait between J1 Visas, they aren't very clear on if it is two years from the date you first applied or the last day you were in the USA, also how long would I have had to have had a J1 Visa for the wait period to apply?

I worked as an Au Pair in America for a year and a half, the first year was on the J1 Visa and the last 6 months was just an extension on my I-95. I would like very much to work as an Au Pair again from next year July or August. Will this be at all possible? My last J1 Visa was from 28 August 2014 to 28 August 2015. I stayed in America until the 24th of February 2016 on my I-95.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Earliest you can get another J-1 visa is 24 February 2018.

I'm not sure how long the application process for a J-1 is. You can time it in such a way that you apply earlier so the visa gets issued AFTER that date.
