Ok that's what I was afraid of, thank you.

We haven't started any of the process yet, we're trying to figure out which the best route to go is. We want to be together the fastest legal way so would you recommend the Fiance Visa?

That is the fastest path currently. It has it's drawbacks. There are guides at the top where you will find the comparisons ( price / time to travel permit / time to be able to work )

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Fastest for US immigration purposes is K1, but comes with caveats (such as having to marry on US soil, not being able to work immediately).

See the comparison chart here for alternate options: http://www.visajourney.com/content/compare

Your main two choices are I-129f for K1 or I-130 for CR-1 filed via the US, unless you both happen to be UK residents, in which case the DCF path opens up to you.

29th August 2013 - 2 year green card arrived

Yea I'm a US citizen, he's UK citizen. Does the fact that he's in the British Army help move things along? HA

Heh...unfortunately no.

His contract ended while deployed so as soon as the deployment is over he'll be free to relocate. We aren't filing any papers until he's back on UK soil with his military discharge papers though because they've changed his discharge date several times so far.

Where are you? Are you living in the UK or USA?

You've set your profile to "K3", which is basically defunct at this point, btw. You'll be chasing K1 or CR-1.

Ok thanks for letting me know lol I'll change that. Sorry this whole process is really confusing for me. I'm in the US btw. He currently lives in the UK but is deployed in Syria at the moment.

OK, cool.

Take a look at this: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow

and then read through the K1 guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

That should help you with getting to understand the basic process for the K1. It'll take a few months - so given that he has to do a medical and interview, you'll want to make sure he's back in the UK to do those steps. When does he get back from his deployment?

Well isn't that the question of the hour HA. I'm not sure. He's not sure. But he said he's on track to finishing this year still. I think honestly he has an idea but because every time he tells me he's done they change the date so I think he's waiting to tell me until it's for real this time. So in the meantime I'm doing all the research that needs to be done before we file.

Welcome to the forum.

Your initial question is often posed. Similar-themed thread from last week (similar response): http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/610586-marriage-abroad-affect-k1/
