I have recently recieved my K1-Fiancee Visa from the US Embassy in London. :D I am getting married in early June and we plan to have the honeymoon on a cruise to Alaska leaving from the Seattle Port. We are looking at the cruise options at the moment and have found that most sail through Canadian waters and have a short stop at 1 Canadian Port, the stop over is only for 4/6 hours.

On my Visa letter it states that I cannot leave the US for any reason until I have filed for permenent residency, what we need to know is if the cruise through Canadian waters and short stop at a port is seen as me leaving the USA and does anyone know what the travelling procedures are for going on a cruise for instance do you need a passport?

We would hate to go on our lovely cruise and then realise that we are breaking the visa rules.

Grateful for any advice.

:D

First.. please do not post your questions in multiple fora..

Second, a stop by a cruise ship in a foriegn port (including Canada) is considered as leaving the US and you will go through CBP immigration controls when you arrive at your next US Port of Call. Therefore, unles you have Advanced Parole, you will not be allowed to reenter the US after your stop in Canada (I'm assuming Vancouver).

So forget the Alaskan cruise, unless you can find one that does not stop in Canada, or only cruises around Alaska when you arrive in Alaska directly by air.

Is this an AMERICAN cruise? If it is, then you are safe AS LONG AS you are staying on the ship. Do not, get off the ship for any reason in Canada port.

Unless, when your cruise arrives in Canada, they request all guests to get off the ship, they you are safe!

Say: I flight back from Vietnam via Canada airspace, but never have to tell Custom "yes, i was IN canada for a brief moment" why? I was inside an American airline. That whole tiny cabine belongs to the US.

In any case, call your travel agency and cruiseline for exact detail. And congratulation!!!

Actually no... on a ship it doesn't work that way... if a ship stops at a port of call... all people must pass through CBP Immigration controls. Not just the people who got off the ship, because there is no way of knowing who got on and who got off...

If a ship stops at a foreign port of call, you have left the US...
