I would not have any courage if I did'nt have hope.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I thought strategy is defined as planning in stages. Therefore, hope is not a strategy. Congratulations!

well i guess i took it as in HOPE didnt bring my fiance here (i was pro-active), and HOPE does not seem to be delivering his greencard either (im active in lobbying). likewise i dont HOPE my marriage will last forever, (i work at it!)

i feel like resting on hope is like passing the risk onto something else.

Good for you! Whether or not there is hope, it is what brings people happiness. I prefer planning, however, if things are out of my control I would get hope. Relationship is not about hoping, you already know so as everyone.

Isn't the lack of hope defined as hopeless?

Even those who claim to not rely on hope, will likely object to claiming their life/situation/etc is hopeless... Hope doesn't DO anything, it's not a strategy, it's not a replacement for action, nor an excuse for inaction, but it is Hope that fuels the desire to accomplish something...IMHO

in this context (the poll - to get a visa) just because i rely little on hope it does not mean that i am hopeless. i do have an expectation of positive result, (notice synonym DESPONDENT). where i can produce an outcome, *hope* isn't really necessary.

Main Entry: hope·less

Pronunciation: 'hO-pl&s

Function: adjective

1 a : having no expectation of good or success : DESPAIRING b : not susceptible to remedy or cure c : incapable of redemption or improvement

2 a : giving no ground for hope : DESPERATE b : incapable of solution, management, or accomplishment : IMPOSSIBLE

synonym see DESPONDENT

Yeah. A person without hope is simply hopeless. Everyone of us here prefer to think positive, thank you very much. A person who cannot withstand a positive environment may leave. Sure, some of us may get denied a petition and they have hope so much for it to be approved. That is not hope's fault is it? You can't blame anybody. Or, you might want to blame the adjudicator, or the person who is looking at your case file.

Sometimes we can use hope as a precursor to good things happening. The anticipation that your wife, fiance might get approved then finally when they get approved, you jump up and down. Some may jump up and down with pillows bouncing, and don't even care! Hope gives that type of enjoyment, and happiness. The disappointment for those who were unable to receive such a feeling is understandable. However, that should not give a reason to abandon hope because once you feel that point of excitement you know you will feel happy.
