Here is my story..

I went to RMV brought with me my passport with unexpired I-94, marriage certificate, birth cerfiticate, utility bills, and my social secuity card with me. The lady said that the system is rejecting my number and i was not able to get my learner;s permit and also my state ID because of that.. I don't understand why would the system reject my number??? I already went to 2 RMV branches here in MA.... and it's really frustrating!!!! The lady said i need to sign the form with my maiden signature, since that's the signature that i have on my passport??? anybody who encountered this kind of thing??? I am on a K-1 Visa and my passport is on my maiden name - it doesn't make sense to me...she even said she doesnt need my marriage certificate and then a litle later she said oh i need your marriage certificate... duh!!!!they will call me tomorrow for the result and see what happens there but i really want to ask you guys if you had this kind of experience???? How did handle it??? I could freak out with these guys who doesn't know what they do, well especially with immigrants... and i think there has to be an orientatin for them so that they will not give us a hardtime/...

Anybody who can help here??? i went to 2 RMV offices aleady, one in brocton and one in arlington..!!

Jomo had the same problem. It took a few weeks for his SSN to make it's way into the system. Be patient and go back in a few.

We then had the same issues at the bank. Same thing. Just had to go back.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Many computer systems are updated once a month with a master SSN list published by SSA, the number that you have is probably newer than what is on the list that they are using, so the computer will indicate invalid number.

I did a little looking on the SSA website and found a few interesting things about the numbers, the SSA publishes a High group list, and I suspect the DMV or Banks are using an older highgroup.txt file in their software and your new card is outside the list of valid numbers.

See: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/employer/stateweb.htm

Here is the current list: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/employer/highgroup.txt

My personal one starts 062- and the second group is less than what is on the list so is valid, in my case if a handed a card lets say is 062-97-XXXX looking at the High Group List chart it would be declared invalid.

I too am one of those IT-Geeks

I know that in many states they wont issue drivers license on only I-94 due to it being valid only 90 days, they want more, like Green-card, or EAD card, as well as SSN, NY does.

In Florida you can apply for a driver's license with only the I-94 and at Bank of America with a passport.

My fiance was able to apply for his SSN only 8 days after his arrival - he was told he'll receive the card in the mail in 2 weeks. However, another Brazilian we know (that arrived a day before my fiance) was told he cannot receive his SSN at this time. And he went to the EXACT same SS office as we did - only a couple hours after.

I don't get it.

I'm glad for us but I don't know why he wasn't successful and it's not fair. My fiance was able to get his Fl ID at the DMV too :).

11/2004 - Met in Brazil

09/2006 - Apply for K1

03/2007 - K1 approved

04/2007 - Apply for AOS & EAD

07/2007 - EAD approved

01/2008 - Conditional Residency approved

11/2009 - Apply to remove conditions

02/2010 - Permanent Residency approved

11/2010 - Apply for Citizenship

03/2011 - Citizenship approved

07/2011 - Moved back to Brazil
