We had a problem because no family was present and why didn't I have my kids come with me to Ghana and get married? ! Because cost to much ! But they gave us a hard time about that

So my fiancee has arrived...we want to move along get married....no need to exhaust 90 days as we are certain this is what we want.

I dont have much family in RI mostly everyones in NYC, Florida or ATL.... will us just opting for a courthouse wedding be so bad???

Will USCIS see this in bad light??

And i really dont need white dress or dumb flowers...

Make sure you take pics though , you & the groom, any guests, maybe pic of you, hubby and the Judge.......

Also if a luncheon- dinner reception later, take pics, even if reception is at a Dennys.... take pics its a good thing.

Hi,

Can I just say that you will be saving a ton of money by having a court house wedding? :)

I had my wedding in Palm Beach County Court House and the only people who were present were my husband's parents, his brother and his dad's uncle. I had NO family of mine present since they did not have B1/B2 visas to travel and be there to stand with me...my own kids were not even there. It felt very personal and intimate to have a few people around and although I missed my family for not being there, my husband has promised that we will have a large reception when we are financially stable back in my home country to include my family.

USCIS would not care how the wedding took place, as long as it did! I wore a simple knee-length white lacy dress and my husband wore a simple black suit. I bought a carnation bouquet and a matching boutonnière that costed me only $25. The court clerk took 5 photos for us and put them on a disc but my brother inlaw brought his own camera and took other pics of all of us so we had almost 60 in total to show my family back home.

Different situation to the op who has used a fiancé visa and is getting married in the us. Also Ghana is a very tough embassy. With a k1 where you get married in the us they don't care as much that the family of the beneficiary can't make it.

I've been married before, had a big wedding my first marriage. This last time, I had a courthouse wedding. Believe me, the courthouse wedding was MUCH more romantic! No flowers, just a pretty dress, he had a nice suit, the judge was a lovely woman, and we went to a great restaurant after. We had a blast. Courthouse weddings are the best! No fuss, no expense, just love...go for it!

Good luck to you! :D

Go with your idea. We couldn't plan as you had no guarantee when you'd get the visa. Then, family all over the globe and US, literally. We had a private beach wedding in Key West, then planned a 'celebration' three months later for family to attend. You save a gob of money, it's very intimate just the two of you, and there's no hurt feelings (Aunt Patty didn't get to sit in the front row, niece Jenny wasn't the flower girl, etc.). USCIS didn't care about it; as everyone has said, they just want a legitimate marriage certificate. We did send in a couple of photos. You'll be glad you got the legal part out of the way, and can then enjoy your life together. :) Congrats, by the way!!

I had a small courthouse wedding, cancelled BOTH BIG weddings, We had one planned for NY and one for Canada to please the family and I just got too stressed with them pushing their ideals and stuff - so we cancelled and did a courthouse wedding with 2 people. Was perfect! I still took photos, etc and my mom was there.

They did ask why the small wedding during my interview last week and I was 100% and just said the in-laws were stressing me out and he laughed and totally understood. He didn't ask for proof, photos, etc!

I say go for it! We loved one another so much we just wanted to get married and start our lives together!
