I've been looking at various timelines and am very confused as to when EAD approval is given. It seems some people get their card prior to their interview (if they even have one), some people are approved at their interview, and some people aren't approved until after their interview.

I suppose that should answer my question as to when approval is given -- sometime! -- but I was wondering if there's a general consensus of people who got theirs prior/at/after.

If you notice my timeline in my signature, we got the EAD way before the interview. I always thought that was how it worked.

The EAD is an intirim benefit that allows you to work until your AOS/I-485 is approved (which may or may not coincide with your AOS interview).

If your EAD is not approved before your AOS interview, it is of no use to you--your Permanent Resident status (aka I-485 approval or "Green Card") over-rides the EAD. Please see the links in my signature for more information.

EADs are generally taking 90 days from application-->approval.

Supposedly EADs are to be approved within 90 days, but it doesnt always happen... as a matter of fact, it seems that it is happening less and less... Interviews are being scheduled and AOS are being approved too fast and I guess their ultimate goal is to eliminate EAD entirely.

I've searched the timelines about 50 times and I get so hopeful and then so worried about how long it will take. I know that patience is key, but when you are supporting two people and your husband has a freaking amazing job lined up that would take so many burdens off your shoulders, it's hard to be patient.

No, If he gets approved at the interview, he wont get an EAD, because when you are resident (green card holder) you don't need an EAD. EAD is just so you can work while waiting for your status to be adjusted.

Or, in our case, Jomo got his AOS and green card without an EAD or interview. Just a few envelopes in the mail.

Some people have their interview and experience a long delay before AOS approval. During that time, they would still need a separate EAD in order to work.

It's the entitlement/gloatiness of your post, since you JUST filed last week! We've all waited for EAD/AOS, we've had 'amazing job offers', we've had to support our spouses for 4+ months.

You're very presumptious to think that I think I feel more entitled than the next person. I think everyone who has taken this process seriously is entitled to straight answers by USCIS, Social Security, DHS, etc. but are rarely given them.

Like I said in my original post and subsequent replies, I did not ask "how long will this take?" I did not say "OH MY GOD this is taking FOREVER" even though we just filed two weeks ago. I did not say "we're more deserving because he has a job lined up".

I've looked through the timelines. I know it can be processed in 60-90 days or more. Most of the timelines that I'm looking at are very incomplete and/or confusing, so my question was do most people receive it BEFORE, DURING, or AFTER their interview.
