Little question

I am in the old group where I have to bring the DS-156 to the interview instead of sending with DS-230.

Here's my question. I know we have to sign the DS-156K in front of them, but do you sign the 2 copies of DS-156 before or at the interview ?????

From my understanding it has to be signed when filled, and it doesnt say anywhere on that for not to write below a lign or anything so I did sign both copies. Should I reprint blank pages just in case ?

I signed mine when I was at the consulate (Vancouver). You can always just leave the signature and date blank and just sign it when you're there and collecting your paperwork.

I signed at the embassy too. Ok ok.. truth be told, I took two copies - one signed and dated and one blank. Yes - I was a complete nervous ninny.

But if you saved the one that you created you can just print off the same without signing it.....tip, next time instead of starting all over and create a new bar code just save the Adobe file and reprint

But that doesnt tell me if its supposed to be signed or not ;(

To the best of my recollection, I gave them the unsigned on, Mephys, sorry. I remember them telling me to sign 'here and here' and I do belive it was for that form.

I reread my checklist and the letter. It doesn't say NOT to sign anything, however, on the back of the DS-156k it does say "DO NOT WRITE BELOW THIS LINE. THE CONSULAR OFFICER WILL ASSIST YOU IN ANSWERING THIS PART."

Yeah but my question is toward the DS-156......not the DS-156K, that one is pretty obvious that you cant sign it.

The DS-156 however doesnt mention that a consular officer must assist you, and since now some people are asked to send the 2 copies of DS-156 at the same time of the DS-230 I assume that it must be sign cause you cant send time a non-signed form....

I had signed the 156 and when I got to the whicket the lady used corrector tape and blanked out the date and the signature. She asked me to resign the form in her presence. I'm not sure it was because she wanted it signed in her presence or if it was the date (i had put a date 2-3 weeks before the interview). I agree with other posters. Take it unsigned to the interview. Sign it in Whicket Lady's presence. If you do sign it, no worries, she'll just white it out and ask you to resign if it's not correct.
