Now that's weird... which document you brought to the interview and thought it was Police Certificate? What's written on it?

It was a similar statement of no criminal record, but from the Tribunal de Justica (I believe - the court system, not from the State Police). When my fiance said that he was able to download his "police certificate" online, I just took his word for it. My bad... but he obtained the correct document and his visa was approved ultimately.

Oh yes, it's a small difference... the TJ one lists only prosecutions in which the person was found guilty as charged. The police certificate shows any ongoing and past inquiries, if there are any... or the statement that there are no criminal records at all for that person. Edited by AP16

Yes, and lesson learned... the hard way. Other than that, everything else went without any difficulty. It set us back a couple of weeks, but thankfully that was the only consequence.

One question though... did you had to take the DS 250 filled out like other person said in this thread? This was not in the instructions we received through e-mail, neither we got a letter about interview... only the instructions e-mail and confirmation email after scheduling the interview.

We completed the DS-160 online (for K-1) and brought the printed confirmation page with barcode to the interview. DS-260 would be completed for an immigrant application, but the K1 is technically a non-immigrant visa, so the DS-160 is correct.

See "Required Documentation" here:

https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/family/fiance-k-1.html

I believe that at one time, applicants completed a portion of the DS-260, but that is no longer the case

I know I had to bring the ds230 part I filled when I had my interview, but it's been a year.

Have you checked the embassy's website?

Edit: I just checked and there was no mention to it that I could see, I'd bring one anyway (like they don't ask for the petitioners birth certificate on the list but end up asking on the interview day

No, I haven't... but there's nothing about it at the instructions e-mail, and I also never received a letter from the consulate, only standard confirmation e-mails and the instructions e-mail received first by my fiancee.

For peace of mind review the Rio Consulate web site regarding required forms and documentation for K-1 (and K-3) visa applications:

https://br.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee/the-interview-2/

The documents listed under "Required Documents" section were exactly what was verified at the interview (and in our situation, we should have read the section entitled "Police Certificates in Brazil" a bit better than we did!).

You'd never get a letter anyway. The email your fiancé got was for you both, more for you since you're the one applying for the visa.

As I said, I'd take the ds230 part I filled to the interview, better safe than sorry

Your Visa was K-1? Because there's nothing on the instructions about filling the DS 230 form. I just filled out the DS160.

Yes, the visa was a K-1, and I still have the appointment email we received from the consulate in Rio de Janeiro with a link to further instructions about the required documents and the medical examination, but the link is to a page that no longer exists. What I posted earlier in this thread was copied from the email I sent to my fiancee letting him know everything he needed to bring to his interview, and that in turn was a copy of the instructions from the link I can no longer access.

My guess is that the requirements have changed and the DS-230 is no longer required. On the other hand, even the Department of State's websites aren't always accurate. To be on the safe side, (as another poster has said) I would bring a copy of the DS-230 to the interview. I would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Worst case scenario, if it turns out you need it and don't have it, you'll be asked to mail it to the consulate, which will probably add a couple of weeks to the time it will take to receive your visa.

Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing well and have had your visa issued without any problems. Could anyone please explain what happens after we receive our NOA2, I have several questions:

  • Will the Rio consulate email me, with my interview appointment date already scheduled, and then I'll go online and fill out the DS-160 form, or do I need to schedule my interview, and if so, how do I do that?
  • How much is the doctor's appointment and how much is the interview? How do I pay for the interview?
  • How far in advance can I schedule the doctor's appointment?
  • How much time did it take you from receiving the NOA2 to the interview and how long after the interview you got your visa?

Thanks in advance, I am trying to plan here my life, where I will be living for the next months, etc and it is not easy since I don't know how much time the consulate has taken in past fiancé visas.

I will try to tell you what I can remember from my fiancè's process. We had our interview in July 2015. So after you receive your NOA2, your fileis transferred to the US Dept of State's National Visa Center where it is verified and then transferred to the proper consolate, Rio de Janeiro in your and our cases, for determination of visa issuance. Once Rio receives your file they will email you with instructions as to the next steps. I know that others in the past have received letters with this information but this is no longer the case now. These instrudtions include  how to setup your interview appointment, what documents to bring for the interview and links to fee scedules if  not the fee required. In our case, my fiance had to sign on the CASV site to register, fill out a DS 160, choose a date for the interview, and pay the fees. The appointment for the doctor is setup once you have this email because you need proof that you will be having an interview. There were only three approved doctors for the medical when we did our interview, one in Leblon, one in Belo Horizonte, and I think one in São Paulo but the last  I am not sure. But the email should have links for these locations as they may be different. You need to have certain immunizations done prior to the medical and these can be done for free at your local Posto de Saude. You can find the list of current required immunizations on the USCIS website. The medical doctor will tell you the other things you will need for the exam and where to go for them as these results are needed by the day of your medical appointment. For my fiancè it was an Xray and some bloodwork. We saw the doctor in Leblon. He sent us to specific places for these near to his office. Someone above in this thread says there is now urine required which they say takes five days to get the results. We made our medical on week prior to the interview to allow for enough time to haave the results and the doctor's report available at our visa interview. Other documents you need will be birth certificate, and police certificates, both state, any you have resided in within the past 5 years, and federal. You can start to get these now. The federal one is available online. Some states are online but some you must get in person. Read earlier post in this thread as someone got something online form the state but it was not form the correct state department. As regards to timing, It took about one month or maybe one month and a half to receive the email from the consulate. As to the schedule for the interview that is based on what is available once you sign on to the CASV website and register. Uou can do it as early or late as your life permits. Now regards the visa process after approval. We chose to receive the visa at the CASV in Rio de Janeiro as we were going to fly directly from there to the US but you can choose to have it mailed to your home. It took about 10 days for it to be ready for pickup at the CASV. I went to the interview with my fiancè. I actually met him in his hometown where we finished his immunizations then we traveled to Rio de Janeiro one week prior to the interview to do the medical. The medical was done the day we arrived in Rio that very afternoon which we had already previous made the appointment through the doctor's office. We got the X-ray first then came to the doctor's office to get the papers for the laboratory to do the bloodwork. The next day I think or two days later we came to see the doctor at his office for the exam but that may chage now due to the urine test someone says is now required. You will have to get this information when you call the doctor to make the appointment. I hope this helps you but continue to do your research online at USCIS and here so that you will be ready for everything that you will need. Boa sorte!!!!!
