I fiI first met my fiance in 2005 in Haiti while on a mission trip. I saw him again when I returned to Haiti in 2010. We stayed in touch and I ended up going on another mission trip with a different group in June 2011; again through mutual friends. In June, 2012, I decided to go on another mission trip with a group that he translated for in Haiti and he volunteered to go with me to visit some local tourist attractions. At that time I met his brothers, sisters, and mom. At this time were still just friends. After I returned to the states, we started talking off and on. During this time I was married. My ex and I decided to file for divorce. We had been discussing divorce for quite a long time and we were both very unhappy in the marriage. We filed for kidivorce in January, 2013. I moved out in February, 2013, and the divorce was finalized in May, 2013. That June I decided to go back to Haiti to see my fiance and to see if maybe there wwas something more between us. The rest is history and we have been together ever since. We just recently became engaged and we are about ready to send in our K1 Visa paperwork. I have known this man for 11 years and we were friends many years before we became a couple. I have pictures of us together, as well as with his family, dating back to 2008. Should I include all of this information and pictures of us together and with his family before we were a couple? Do I need to explain the details of my divorce, meaning write a letter saying we filed in January, etc. or do I just submit the divorce decree and not mention the details of our divorce? Any input or advice would be much appreciated!!

I would just be upfront and honest. Direct and to the point. You two have known eachother since 2005. the paragraph you just wrote sounds almost like a perfect "How we met" letter for the packet. Your divorce will come up eventually anyways because it's there; but you two didn't start dating until after the divorce so "no harm no foul" so to say.

You should just state basically what you just did and you'll be fine.

So do you think I should I say say in the letter in the how we met letter the details of my divorce that I just explained?

The divorce will come up anyways as you have to "declare" that you were previously married; but since you two did not start actually dating until after your divorce it shouldn't be an issue. Just stating that you have known eachother during your marriage does not exactly raise an alarm. The whole point of the "how we met" letter is to just do a base explanation.

You two have more history than alot of people on here I am sure. Even myself and my partner's "how we met" was in general about 1/4 to 1/.2 a page max. Just stick to the point and be honest and you should be fine. Youre fiance is aware of your previous marriage I would assume and the timeline so no reason to try to avoid it because again it will "Come out" anyways especially during the interview phase of your process.

Sorry to keep asking questions, but what do you mean by I have "declare" that I was married and that it will "come out" during the interview process? We am just trying to be as prepared as possible for all scenarios. Thank you for your help!

He will be asked anyway when, where and how you met. There is only one answer which is the truth.

This question will be repeated when he adjusts status if his K1 is approved.

Haiti is not an easy embassy and you will have to overcome a suspicion that you did not divorce your husband on purpose to 'help this guy

get a GC' and then re marry your husband. Believe me this kind of fraud takes place a lot for a lot of money being paid to USC.

Your engagement and divorce has a bit of a short gap and you most definitely should write a timeline of when you first met, when you fell in love,

how your relationship progressed and the reason you and your ex decided to divorce, make it clear that it was not because of him but

to other reasons if that is the truth.

You can not hide when you met. It will be asked !

Front load your petition with relationship evidence, trips, boarding passes, receipts, photos, phone call logs, chats.

Google front load in the VJ search bar to find out why you should do this.
Be on the premises when he interviews.

Okay, so I should state in the letter how and when I met him, etc, then state why we divorced? Do I need to also do just a timeline of of visits since we became a couple in June, 2013 or just include everything in one document? Does that make sense? Thanks so much for your help!

One timeline is enough, you can do it letter style or bullet style. No more than 2 typed pages if you decide to write it like a letter. Then when you front load all your evidence make a category of all your trips and write a short summary of them on a sheet of paper and clamp it together with your boarding passes, receipts etc and everything about the trips and attach photos in plastic baggies to the clamps or print photos on paper and attach. keep

It simple so the overview and categories are easy to view.

Okay, one last question. I have two DHL receipts of things I sent him when he applied for his Tourist visa since I was going to be the person to sponsor him when he was here just recently. In the description on the receipts it says "Documents to be taken to visa interview? Would it be helpful to send these or not? Thanks again!

I think this might be a little overdone. Many people on here have met their fiances while they were still married to a now ex-spouse. Sometimes divorce just takes a long time. And yes, sometimes people have affairs. It's reality. Your situation, as you described it, doesn't sound suspicious. You were divorced, got in a relationship 5 months later, and now it's 3 years later and you're planning on getting married. That's a lot of time, IMHO.

What exactly do you consider overdone ? Haiti is a tough embassy to go through and I have seen too many K1's returned.
Timeline letters are helpful, especially OP asking what they should say when asked when they first met.

You can not compare high fraud embassies with your own.

We have been asked at AOS about both of our past relationships, it does not just stop at the K1 interview.

We had many years between our relationships and it still mattered.

Preparing and even overdoing is much better than not enough with a ladida attitude.
