Shipping from UK to Houston

Anyone have any recommendations? My wife is coming over from Salisbury, UK and we are looking at the best options. Most of her stuff can fit in boxes so I imagine it would be done by weight? Anyone have a decent estimate of what it costs?

How does customs work for shipping when she is traveling with the goods? If she mails me 4 large boxes, does someone open them up and go through it all? Or do we submit paperwork with the goods. We obviously know the list of things not to pack. Most of her items would be personal stuff, kitchenware and household goods (pictures/paintings etc...).

Any good suggestions an estimate of price?

Thanks in advance for help

I used a company called baggagehub, I shipped 3 large boxes (about 24 kilos each) and 1 large suitcase (approx 25 kilos) and the cost was £300, insurance was another £200 but we didn't bother with that and everything was delivered just fine. There's not too much paperwork, just how many boxes etc and roughly what's in each one, when they were picked up the driver helped with any paperwork questions which made it all very easy! Hope this helps and all the best :)

She needs to review all the stuff several times before packing it all and ask herself simple question if she really needs that stuff.

most of the stuff can be bought here especially if it's clothing and really... kitchenware and household items?

your options:

usual mail or fedex, ups and other available services: starting somewhere 300-500 pounds and up depending on urgency and service.

partial/shared or full parcel: might be much cheaper than mail but depends on services available

fastest and most optimal way imo (and how I did when I was moving to States) is to include needed things into additional bags and pay at airport, 50-120 dollars per additional 24kg bag with acceptable dimensions depending on the airlines she will use.

Oh, what a day, what a lovely day!

The cost is actually the last of our worry. We have about 5,000 dollars of reimbursement with my job to pay for it.

She was mostly worried about customs or just the logistics of how to do it. Also specifically whether there will be an issue if she mails it to me before she gets her CR-1. Are there any problems if it's all being shipped to me? I wouldn't think so but we just want to check.

None at all, customs have no idea what the immigration status of the sender and USCIS don't monitor mail/shipping... so long as all the paperwork is correct you'll be fine :)

Everything crossed for a smooth and stress free journey
