I have a green card, and have lived in the U.S. for about 1.5 years now. I am also a Canadian citizen. I am going to go back home to Toronto to visit for a week. Other than my passport and green card, are there any other documents I need to bring? Or will this be a pretty smooth sailing for me?

If you have your passport and green card you should be OK.

Just remember that if they ask you, "home" is now in the US! it's easy to fall back into the old habit :)

"They" can always question anything, if they feel like it. That's my experience, anyway. ;)

But if you're on the up-and-up there shouldn't be any problems.

It will be smooth sailing. With a green card in hand, they cannot question your re-entry. That's my understanding anyway

Of course they can. How much time did you spend in Canada? what were you doing? where is your home? what do you do for work? why were you in Canada?

Absolutely the CBP can question you for hours if they choose to. They can't actually take away a green card but if you've done nothing wrong, you most obviously have nothing to worry about either. :) But they can question.

I've traveled to Canada twice with my GC and they barely looked at it or my passport honestly. But, just in case, I also brought my marriage certificate/certified copy, and my actual acceptance letter I received with my GC. I may have brought more than that lol I'm paranoid. :rolleyes:

Easy breezy - I did it quite a few times. The most surprising was once or twice the Cdn border person asked about my US status and to see my US GC, checking I was legally coming from the US or pure interest - who knows. Going back to the US...never a problem ever, just the usual questions.
