Hello friends,

My brother in law is US citizen; his wife (my younger sister) is a green card holder. So can they sponsor me &my family (as their elder sister - with my husband and a daughter) for a green card?

Thank you. I wait for yr advice,

Dear Georgia16,

Thank you for your quick reply. It is clear for a newbie like me :)

In this case, then can my brother-in-law (US citizen) sponsor me (as his elder sister-in-law) and my husband &a daughter for a green card?

Respectfully appreciate your advice, :)

With best regards,

She has to be a citizen.

And it takes about 13 years to apply for siblings.

No he can not. You have no way to get a GC that way either wait til she becomes a citizen and can apply for you + all the years of waiting or look into a workvisa, student visa or something like that...

And welcome to the forum

hi

ditto, for family petitions it has to be blood related,

only your sister can file for you and as a USC. so when she becomes a USC, she can file for you, but as said, it takes a very, very long time

Welcome to the forum and good luck. 13 years is a long time. Some countries are up to 20+ years. Also, you may find that visiting your sister may be more difficult to get tourist visa. You can only try. Chances are, she will have to visit you if you want to see each other. Your children might be able to get student visas later on but you and your husband will be difficult no matter what.

Do you know how soon your sister can become a U.S. citizen if she passes the requirements? You have to add those years to the 13 year time.

Hello all - star and gold member.!

You, aleful and rcripps, r superb. I m very very honoured to get yr advice.@ I am very thankful.

By anyway, may u help to introduce to me the workvisa forum (or section)? I tried to look around but seem not finding it.

As in my thought, is it a good idea to work on the workvisa my own (getting the labor certificate from the employer in US, then work on the visa process)? or is there any company which is skillful n trustable for working on the workvisa?

Thank you once again and waiting for your advice, :)

Work Visa H1B are done and paid for completely by the employer. The requirement is usually that you have to have a skill that can't be done by many people already in the United States. So, a common job will not qualify for an H1B visa. Please look up on the forum for H1B.

L1 is my favourite, can you get a transfer with your current employer?
