Curious, what in earth happened to your child in Denmark that has caused all this animosity?

It is more of a sum of experiences thing. This thread really isn't the place for it, nor am I am in the mood to type it all out.

Well, you make it sound like living in Denmark is straight out child-abuse; so some context would probably be great. Scandinavian countries are generally seen as among the best places in the world to raise children - so sounds like you've had a uniquely bad and unfortunate experience.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

That is your perception about what I've said and yes, for my daughter, it was akin to that. I'm not sure how fair it was to share those specific experiences with people thinking about moving there. Of course, those specific things were specific to my child being mixed race (well, not that she is outwardly visible as such to Americans), to that specific international school, to those unique experiences and interactions she had with Danish people.

And, of course it isn't fair because I know there are wonderful Danish people. My mother-in-law is one of them. She has one of the purest and kindest souls imaginable. Honestly, her love at that time for a step child they had just met was amazing.

We regularly go to the self-checkout's at Walmart for example so I can bag my own bags and not walk out with six different bags for the ten small things I bought but just two bags stuffed. My husband often tells me laughing I'm such a European woman, heh.

They're taught not to overstuff bags because they get heavy and rip. Which in the USA, they do. I bag them like I do in Canada and sometimes I have to double bag because I'll realize it's too heavy for the bag. Our Target bags are better than the walmart or the King Soopers too!

There is slim chance of bringing home my groceries on a bike, and there's two people. https://walkableprinceton.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/dsc02850.jpg may be big enough to hold it all... but then you put in hills etc to get home? LOL no.

There's only 2 of us too and we're not fat!

those are quite normal in Denmark :)

You can have a couple of kids and other stuff down there! VERY expensive though.

it looks about the size of a trunk which would work for 2 or 3 people. But a family larger than that would need to either shop very often or use a car. I used to fill up the trunk, back seat and have a few items in the front too!

People shop for a family of 4 for a week on less then that :) if you are used to it then you know how to pack things up so it fits :)

This is exactly why I hate having someone bag my stuff. They use way too many bags.

It's actually pretty funny. When I met my now husband we lived in different cities and I would basically live at his place during the weekends. He would wait with grocery shopping until I arrived Friday afternoon because he preferred it when I bagged the groceries. 3 years later it is still my job and he hates doing grocery shopping by himself lol.

For a week.. yes. I don't shop every week. :D I shop max, twice a month. I'd prefer it to be once a month. :D

The process of bagging your own groceries here in Czech Republic is awful. People are always so busy fumbling around with their money they don't bag their own groceries fast enough and there isn't enough space for the cashier to put the next customers items so you get a huge queue. My grocery store experiences so far in Europe (both Germany and Czech Republic) have been pretty terrible, especially so here in Prague now.

In Canada I went to a store where you bought large amounts of groceries and had to bag yourself. Because the grocery lines could be very long with the amount of food people buy (enough to fill the back of a small box truck) they had two conveyor belts. Person 1 had their own and person 2 had their own. This allowed for the time to bag, which is always slower than the cashier. Some people would wait until totally done paying before starting bagging which clogged up even that system! There's always going to be people who clog up the system. When my mom worked for Safeway, it was the best system but they taught the cashiers and clerks how to actually bag groceries. Now they give them a brief overview and away they go. IMHO if stores are going to bag for you, they should teach them how to do it properly.
