K-1 Visa Pending - Home Sick for my American Home

Hey everyone.

I am looking for some advice on homesickness, but I haven't moved yet.

I am from Canada and my fiance, Harlan, is from the States. We have been engaged since this past New Years Eve, and have been long distance since April of last year. We are excited to have finally started the K-1 Visa process, we have gotten our own place in the US already and during my previous visits I have made it my home. I lived with Harlan when he was staying in Canada until he moved home last April. I thought having this process started would make me miss him less, but it's only made me miss him more, especially having built my home there.

I have no doubts or fears about moving, and only want to get there faster. We are still waiting for our NOA2, and I think this will be one of the longest, hardest parts of the entire process. We are visiting as often as we can still, even with the visa process started, but it doesn't make the time apart any easier. Even knowing this is coming to an end, I am desperately missing the home I am moving to and the man I love.

I am looking for any type of advice for coping with the distance for the last few months we are apart, and any ways to make this easier on both of us. If anyone has their own experience they want to share and how they got through it, anything would be appreciated.

honestly its just communication and love will strengthen you throughout this distance , i saw my fiance twice this year once in January then in August , a straight 7 months till i saw her but with talking to her everyday and skyping when we could those 7 months went very fast, that in between really made us 10 times stronger

Hang in there. You have a few months to go unless any hiccups occur in your K1 application process. In the meantime, while you are waiting for your K1 petition to be approved, start doing your research to see what the next steps will be in your immigration journey. See what documentation you will need to collect before you go to Montreal for your K1 visa interview. Maybe print off the forms that you will need for packet 3 and fill these out as sample forms that you can use when you assemble that packet.

Start researching the AOS application and what this will entail (you will have to file this upon entry to the US after marriage). Check out some of the other forums here on VJ.

Researching the immigration process from K1 visa to AOS to ROC to citizenship will give you a better idea of what your immigration journey will entail and help you prepare for the next application that you will have to submit. This is what I did throughout the whole immigration process and it made the time fly by quicker.

Being separated from the one you love is the hardest part but in the end, it is so worth it.

Good luck in your journey.

Girl, I feel ya wholeheartedly! I went over 100 days without seeing my fiancé (I haven't seen him since May) but am heading back to Canada on TUESDAY (YAY) to see him for the first time in over 3.5 months. It has been very difficult and I totally feel your frustration! It can be very hard thinking about the process, how stressful it is, and even what the future entails. More times than not I have really thought about why I made the choice to start this visa. I continue to remind myself that at the end of the process (our interview is on WEDNESDAY, woohoo!) it'll all be worth it. Even though we will *hopefully* be approved on Wednesday, he won't be moving to America until November. I still have to wait 1.5 months to see him after our interview. BUT this will be the last time I will say goodbye!!

I can always talk to you more about how you're feeling so don't hesitate to personally message me! Hang in there! :)

Kristina

Hang in there love! Waiting for your NOA2 is one of the most frustrating parts of this visa, but I promise you once you receive it you'll feel so happy! And once NVC receives it everything just sort of goes by really quick.

Time will pass regardless but atleast you two are taking the necessary steps to be with each other permanently! I feel your pain 100% you will be fine!

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for all of the support, it helps having a place of other people who have gone through or are going through the same thing. It definitely helps knowing I am not the only one!
