Thanks mags! I spend the day there yesterday, just to have a lil tour of what happens during the day, really enjoyed it, the people who work there are very nice and friendly, will be a good laugh, will never be a dull moment.

Hey britty, I'm currently in Rhode Island, the smallest state, but is a great place, love it here, people are so nice, love the area. so glad the weather has got warmer! How are you enjoying it in VA?

Love RI, inlaws have a summer place in Middletown. We usually spend July 4th long weekend there, as well as a few other visits!! Think I wil be up in early June to chill. Congrats on the new job.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

hi Lisa congrats on your new job! is your husband in the Xray or MRI field too? my husband is trying to get a job in that line...as an Xray/MRI tech but he got his degree and clinical training in the philippines. CA is tough as they won't allow him to atempt the board exam as he needs to get his clinical hours in hospitals here first (1000 hrs at least)...which he can only get if he enrolls back in to a school program. anyways, seems like working as an MRI aid would be better for him for now...my question is...do they require you to have a license to be an Xray/MRI Tech Aid in Vermont?

Fate is building a bridge of chance for the one you love...

:) thanks guys!

mychelle, hi! thank you. I'm not sure about Vermont, but in Rhode Island where I am, I don't need a license to be a "tech aid" to be an actually technologist you would do, I've gone into the job with really no experience, so I'm going to learning straight from the job, I'm going to hopefully get into MRI in a few years myself, I first have to get through the x ray program to do this, in Rhode Island you have to anyway. I'm currently studying in college, doing prerequisites, to get into the x ray program, I will hopefully be taking Intro to X ray in the fall, then hopefully I shall have all the requirements to get into the program and hopefully sign up next year, but it maybe at least another year or two till I can get into it, so I'm doing all what I can in the mean time, this job will be great experience for the future.

My husband has currently been an x ray tech for almost a year, he will be finishing his MRI program in a month, then he has to take the registry to qualify as an actual MRI Technologist, then he will be going into a Nuclear Medicine Program, all so busy, but he is enjoying his work.

My husband has had to do that, you mention about clinical hours, you have to get so many, thats exactly what he has been doing, he had to get so many exams done on his clinical site, he has almost done this now. I hope you husband gets through it all, it's a very interesting line of work and MRI is advancing all the time, it's the most up to date area in this field, so I hope all goes well for you guys! :)

Congrats! "MRI Tech Aid' sounds techy :) How are you enjoying your new job??

I just started my first job here in CA 1.5 wk ago. I'm working as a Special Education teaching assistant at a junior high. Love the kids!!! It's a lot less stressful than being a "real" teacher (which I was back in Canada), but of course the paycheques reflect that too, haha...
