and thanks alot for your really informed answers on my last post.

Now I am not trying to cheat any system here. I am not trying to ask which would be better, etc.

What I am curious about is. She has an interview for the tourist visa on the 30th. Her interview for the fiance will being coming up soon. Within a month I am hoping. She has already paid the money to get a special PIN # and receipt for her tourist visa interview. So my question is. Can she use that receipt and PIN # for both visa interviews. Or will she have to pay that again?? And if so can she use that receipt and PIN# and payment instead for the fiance visa interview.

thanks again beforehand

The fee for the PIN# is completely different from the visa fee. Like you said, the PIN# is only to reserve a slot for the interview, the other fee is for the actual K-1 visa that she will be receiving. What I don't understand is why did she bother in getting a PIN# for a tourist visa when you had already filed for a K-1 visa?

yeah cheers to you

with the dumb dumb dumb

perfect

that was a perfect answer

well

i will answer this in a dumb dumb dumb way i am sure but....

well i sent her some money to grab a PIN for the tourist visa interview as our NOA2 did not arrive yet

they have just moved her back along way due to other papers not being ready(she had to reschedule).

then the fiance approval came

i thought i could see her more quick and my family know her a bit, since i know her family, first, before her fiance visa interview.

with that being said

all i am wondering, yes i know i am dumb,

is can she use that fee to get an interview, can she use that for 2 interviews, or will she have to pay for another?? or can she just transfer that interview to fiance interview?

yes yes, i know we are dumb, me more than she, of course!!

Raspect,

Recognize that B visas are processed by the non-immigrant visa unit of a consular post, while K visas are processed and issued by the immigrant visa unit. Different policies and procedures may - and usually do - apply, even though the same consular officers may staff both units.

Raspect, what you have to understand is what I said earlier. The money she paid for the PIN# is just for the interview, it's not the actual cost of the visa, so that's been lost. When she gets her interview at the embassy for her K-1 visa she will HAVE to pay the visa fee which is $100, which is completely different from the PIN#. Buying a PIN# doesn't guarrantee you a visa, it only guarrantees you an interview at the embassy.

I strongly suggest for her not to go to the tourist visa interview since you'll be getting the K-1 visa interview soon. Just be patient like all of us and don't make any rash decisions only because you want to be together sooner than expected.

Monomoke28,

The visa fee of $100 is "not the actual cost of the visa" either, and "doesn't guarrantee you a visa, it only guarrantees you an interview at the embassy".

$100 is the visa application processing fee for a non-immigrant visa - any non-immigrant visa, be it a B2 tourist visa or a K1 fiance(e) visa.

The PIN# gets one in line for non-immigrant visa applications handled by the non-immigrant visa unit. It does not apply to K visas, which are handled by the immigrant visa unit.

Good Sir or Good Mam, I do appreciate any advice you give me here. It is highly valued in my humble opinion. But I am curious as to why you STRONGLY suggest we do not go to the tourist visa interview?? Again in my humble opinion, I do not see how it would affect the fiance visa negatively. She will not use the tourist visa probably, but would not be a bad thing to have. So, without further rambling, why do you suggest strongly that she does not attend the tourist interview?

Very doubtful that a visitor visa will be granted as your fiancee has immigrant intent with the K-1. Immigrant intent is high on a consulates list when deciding an application for a visitors visa and is means for a denial of that application. Many have tried and failed even when they have had extenuating circumstances.

  • 1 month later...

Hi.

My girlfriend and I would like her to come here to meet my family and friends and live with me (trial run) for a month or so and to see if she'd like living here. We are probably going to marry eventually, but we are not at that step yet. She's in Costa Rica and I hear that getting a tourist visa there is pretty tough. We were going to file the K-1 just for her to come here to visit and then file it again when we are ready to get married. I have the K-1 package ready to go, I was about to send it before we thought it over and changed our minds. I never sent the K-1 forms. Doing k-1 twice seems like too much waiting. The tourist visa (if approved) takes only 2 weeks to get an interview.

Lately, I've been hearing that getting a tourist visa isn't that diffficult as long as she can establish strong ties to her home country. A kid she'll leave behind (coming solo) should help, has a job, rents a house, pays utilities---are these good ties? Anything else?

Any thoughts about doing the toursit first then fiancee? Any suggestions to improve our chances of getting the tourist visa?

Thanks in advance.

I agree....visitor visa would be a waste of time since K-1 is already in process and nearing completion. Just wait it out for the K-1.
