Can we agree that one single "bad kill" by any cop, whether rogue or good, is one too many? I'm pretty sure we can. And I am fairly certain you'd agree with me that any rogue cops should be prosecuted and put behind bars, right? If not, then feel free to stop me in my tracks.

But let's take it one step farther. Disgregarding the race of the police involved, look at the 2015 "death by cop" numbers: "In 2015, The Washington Post launched a real-time database to track fatal police shootings, and the project continues this year. As of Sunday, 1,502 people have been shot and killed by on-duty police officers since Jan. 1, 2015. Of them, 732 were white, and 381 were black (and 382 were of another or unknown race)." That's almost TWICE as many whites as blacks that are killed by police in a year.

Also: "Police have shot and killed a young black man (ages 18 to 29) such as Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. 175 times since January 2015; 24 of them were unarmed. Over that same period, police have shot and killed 172 young white men, 18 of whom were unarmed." (Said period was Jan-Jun 2015, as best I can determine)

Now bear in mind, this speaks nothing towards whether or not the shootings were warranted. Just raw numbers of people killed by police.

And I stand by my previous comment "it's only a handful". When you consider the thousands of interactions with police across the US daily in which no one gets shot, and if 5 per day get shot (as in 2015), even if 2 a month were wrongfully killed (yes, a tragedy, to be sure), it's still a drop in the bucket. More patients are killed in hospitals every day (some say around 700) than by police. Why is there no uproar against doctors & nurses? Because they wear scrubs instead of badges? Less than 1/10th of 1% (0.001) of "bad shoots" is, statistically, not overwhelming evidence of bad cops trying to keep ANYONE down, let alone blacks.

She's been a victim of it. And I've been a victim of it. And it's more than a handful. Being a law biding citizen should guarantee me safe passage when I interact with the police. But being black, I don't have that safety net. And you can't blame crime, because somehow, white people with arsenals get arrested without bullets in them, and they've killed people. It's not that we don't listen, it's you want to have this conversation without ALL the parameters involved.

You don't get to tell people who've been brutalized by the police we can't point fingers. When we have more skin in the game than you ever will. We have kids that are black, and could fall prey to that same kind of violence. Because we know how it can go.

It is none of my business to point out racism. I respond because you guys act like hypocrites who can't look at the bigger picture if it doesn't fit your agenda and I enjoy showing that. Because that was yet another anecdotal evidence, because how you reach a conclusion that just because some black people get killed while an attempt to arrest them is being made, and just because some white people don't, doesn't mean all black people do and doesn't mean all white people don't. Not sure how you reach your conclusions, really.

But, in that other thread, you posted a picture of a guy coming out of the bathroom as a reason why you think the way you do. We, on the other hand, have lived it, been victims of police brutality, and know quite a few people that are victims of it. Not to mention the countless studies that have been done to show that when it comes to police interaction with POC.

I'm shocked you asked this question. But maybe you just don't have a clue about it so I'll break it down nicely.

The reason why we're upset at the cops and not doctors is because they're not the ones bragging about killing us on the operating table. There are videos of cops high fiving right after shooting an unarmed black teen. Same video shows they even turned off their body cameras, meaning they knew there were going to do something shady. Then they turn around and lie about him having a weapon. Or emails that break down cops telling others how to frame black men specifically. Or reports from various PD(Chicago, Baltimore, Ferguson) that show explicit bias and bad policing towards people of color. Or a city that KNEW ahead of time that a police shoot was completely unjustified and waited an entire year to award the family justice, you know, the one where the cops shot that kid 16 times, lied about him attacking them, then went to the surrounding areas and confiscated the video tapes. Or what about the ones who went to that bridge and just decided to open fire on black folks trying to get out of LA when Katrina. That's scary right there. Their only crime? Being black trying to escape from a flood.

That one on STL I can speak on personally. I made a thread a while back about how you could tell where white people lived in black neighborhoods by looking at the streets in the winter. The city makes sure to clear their streets of snow and ice, while leaving the ones next to it slick as hell.
