Police Clearance/Police Report in China

Hello VJers,

Once again I am in need of your wisdom. I just received the NOA2 of my fiance's K1 visa.

And I am planning ahead to help her get the necessary docs. The two hardest/most troublesome ones are the Birth Certificate Notarial Copy and the Police Report Notarial Copy.

I have figured out the Birth Certificate one but the police report is standing in our way.

First of all, my fiance is not living in China and is a resident of another country. Hence asking in person is very unlikely.

Her Hukou belongs to a small town that has about 70k population. We called her local Pai Chu Suo and they have no clue about what a police clearance/report is. Their response was "how am I supposed to prove that you did not commit any crime in China?" In another attempt, the person on the phone asked my fiance to ask her village(rs) to write a report on how good of a person she is in the village and they can write something to certify that claim.

I am completely lost here. From what I have been reading, the Police Clearance must be issued by the local Pai Chu Suo and nowhere else.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

From Wikipedia - In China, a public security bureau (PSB) (Chinese: 公安局; pinyin: gōng'ānjú) refers to a government office essentially acting as a police station or a local or provincial police; the smallest police stations are called police posts (Chinese: 派出所; pinyin: pàichūsuǒ).

Try the nearest large city or prefecture.

However - if THIS - "In another attempt, the person on the phone asked my fiance to ask her village(rs) to write a report on how good of a person she is in the village and they can write something to certify that claim." - came from the PSB, that may be your best bet.

Don't forget to have these translated into the "white book" (GongZhengShu 公证书֤ ֤֤ or Notarial Certificate) format

All police stations have computer access to check criminal record, unless a very small station in the mountains and don't have internet access.

The problem may simply be in FINDING someone who knows what a "Non-criminal record" is and how to issue it.

All Pai Chu Suo in China with computers should be able to access a resident's criminal record, as long as an ID number is provided. You should specifically ask for a "无犯罪记录“, Chinese companies and schools require it all the time so it should not be something new, and have it notarized at the local notary. It should be a pretty standard document and procedure.
