Name change while renewing passport (with 10-yr GC?)

Hi all - I'm an Australian citizen married to a US citizen and have a 10-year GC. My Aussie passport is up for renewal and I'd like to change my last name (I just had my son and now have a desire for us all to use our family name.) Given the passport renewal, I thought it might be prime time to make this change. BUT:

1) is now the right time or is it going to cause a lot of drama for my immigration status to change my name?

2) will i need to re-apply for my GC? I just got my 10-year and am not looking to go through that all over again...

3) which step is first if i do want to change my name? Do I change my immigration status first, or get my passport changed and renewed? Or something else? What about SSN?

4) I've read its easier to do upon naturalization. Should I just wait until I do that and then file my name change (and then my passport change, again, too?)

It seems like a huge hassle which is why I haven't done it yet... but want to for my family! Appreciate any advice!
