I got in line 2 months before my 3 yr anniversary. I think it really depends on FP. However your reasoning of not being interviewed until after anniversary is likely to be correct. I've been waiting for too long it feels like.

I think that's not consistent. I filed 90 days before and my 5 yr anniversary was in December. Still hasn't changed from fingerprint appt scheduled.

you are correct. They aren't consistent. When I went to interview in December at Pittsburgh office, the officer said they conducted interviews for both IOE applicants (April - mid August) and NBC ( Jan- Feb & late Aug - Current). Besides, they had received nearly 1 million of n-400 applications. They explain why they are taking so long. They have more applications to process but only have the same amounts of officers to do works. It's crazy.

I applied on Sep 26, 2016 in Dallas office. My finger printing was done on Oct 18. Still no update yet. The closest field office is Jacksonville, FL. I talked to L2 officer and she said that the background check is still pending due to high volume of applications. Which office does the background check, Dallas office where I applied or the Jacksonville office which will be doing my interview?

FBI do every background check. They do fingerprint check, name check, and background check. Fingerprint check doesn't take a long time to be cleared. but name check can be, especially if your name are common. What they do is to run all your names [asked at the fingerprint and application] through their database. If your name doesn't get any hit, it's cleared. But if your name get any hit, they will have to go through all the files manually which can take days, weeks, or months depending on how specific they need.

They sent it the 20th of December and still nothing... I feel like I'm going to miss my interview

I just called USCIS talked to L2 officer like 5 mins ago! He specifically told me that my FP were cleared from FBI and USCIS received clear response from FBI  the very next day i gave my FP.  However It's not necessary that INLINE status should be reflected. He said i should just wait for Interview letter.

i have seen couples  of October filer have their interview schedule already.

They probably are in the field offices that aren't busy. They are few field offices that process faster than the rest.

One of L-2 officers told me before that our files are only updated when someone at NBC work on our file. We can be background check cleared but not getting online status update until our files are in someone's hands. That's crazy!!!!

Few questions for those who have taken the interviews:

(i) Do they ask you the questions exactly in the red book (which was given to us during fingerprinting)?

(ii) Do I need to take the full tax copies of the last 5 years -- or just the first 2 pages of 1040?

 

Please advise.
