Your visa expires six months after the date of your medical.

Correct, made a mistake there lol. My medical was on July 23rd. Wanted to type that but instead 'receiving visa' came out.

Your choice who files the G325A, if you both want to be contacted electronically, cool you both do it, if not then dont. That form isnt critical.

You wont see an Alien number until you see an approved NOA2...

The G-325a is a must from both petitioner and beneficiary. I think maybe you mean G-1145, which is optional and means you receive NOA1 via text and/or email. :)

As an Australian going through this process, I would make sure you are both 100% committed to this relationship before starting the process. I have been with my partner for 2 years and we have known each other almost 5 years. It is daunting and even though it does take some time, there are time limitations.

1. Be ready to marry at any moment. Do not expect this to take 8 months and not be ready to marry. Know within yourselves that this is absolutely what you want and in moving to another country. As RandiandYuni already stated...for me too this is happening amazingly quickly considering what I was originally looking at (THANK GOD). But keep in mind, from the moment you are granted the visa, it expires in 6 months and from there, once you enter the USA, you have 90 days.

2. It is not an easy or cheap process. There are a lot of costs involved including the VISA, Medicals, Passport photos and mailing of packages etc. Make sure you and your partner are ready for these costs.

3. Have everything ready as others have said. There is a lot of details etc and you will be need to be prepared!!

Good Luck with the process :)

Thank you! Also could you tell me if the form DS-160 needs to be completed? and when should i do that if needed.

ok does this form DS-160 need to be completed as part of the K1 application?

For the I-129F petition, no. To apply for a K-1 visa, yes. Those are two separate stages of the process for getting a K-1 visa.

First, the USC submits the I-129F petition. It is not an application for a visa. Once the petition is approved, it grants the foreign fiance(e) eligibility to apply for a K-1 visa.

You really need to read through the I-129F instructions and checklist on the USCIS website. Also, read the K-1 guide and flowchart found here on VJ. You need to research more about how the whole process works.

I agree, do more research. But it's also good that you're asking, many, many people on here have gone through the same thing.

Like KayDeeCee said, the DS-160 online form is for the K-1 visa, not the i-129f petition. I filled out the DS-160 as soon as we got the NOA2 for the petition, and then I only submitted it once my CEAC status said "ready" as I knew the embassy had received our case then.

But everything after the NVC stage is very country specific, so you should read up on how it works at the embassy in Australia.

Q: Can me and my fiance apply for the k1 visa while I am in the states with him? As I came through customs the officer asked how long I was staying. I said 52 days and he thought that was a bit much...

Yes you can. You can prepare the petition and send it while you are with him. Just make sure you are home once the petition gets forwarded to your closest Embassy so you can provide their requested documents and attend the interview.

DS-260 is for a immigrant visa like CR/IR-1. K-1 is non immigrant so you will have to fill out a DS-160 just before your interview.

Please read guides and the official websites carefully.

Thanks everyone. :) I have another question, when does form DS-230 need to be filled/sent?

Never. Again, you need to research more about how the whole process works. Start here > https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/family/fiance-k-1.html

You really need to go on the official websites and look into the guides. Current filling fee is $340. Prices don't differ per state or whatsoever. Please read the USCIS website where they state their current filling fee and what you need.

Cristina24: The cost of the i-129f PETITION is 340USD. You don't send the VISA fee with the i-129f package.

Like stephadams said: you seriously need to read the guides and all other pages you've been told to look up.
