Hello everyone :)

My boyfriend and I want to apply for the K1 Visa. Im from Australia, he lives in Texas. I need to know some things first if anyone has the answers?

Do we have to be engaged prior to applying for K1 visa? We dont have a date yet when we'd like to get married, but we do in the near future. We would like to get married during the 90 day period when im allowed to come back in the states.

My boyfriend is filling out the K1 visa, we are stuck on 2 things....

He doesnt have a "Alien registration number" what even is that? ?

And with the G-325A form do we both send a copy of this form filled separately?

Also..."Current husband or wife" (if none, so state)? We're not married yet so what should we put in that section? ....Thanks guys!

K-1 is a fiance visa so yes, you should be engaged prior to filing it. You also must get married within 90 days of entering the US on a K-1 visa.

Hello, I'm actually from Texas too. You do need to be engaged in order to petition for the fiance visa (k1). You will need to provide proof of your relationship mostly through pictures of you two together. Yes you both need to fill out the G-325A and send in originals (with your signatures). With the Alien registration #, he doesn't need to worry about that if he was born in America. If you plan on marrying once permitted the visa, aren't you guys technically engaged already? If it isn't official yet I guess it's okay to start preparing your documents already. They have a pretty detailed guide that may answer more questions here:

omg thank you, you are so nice! ☺️

We are not engaged, no ring on my finger, no marriage plans yet, we just want to get married within the 90 day period after the visa is granted. Do u think thats a good idea? We have met 3 times in the last 2 years, been together for 7 years. I mean these documents take so long to process we just want to have them done so we are free to marry within a year or so. (when the visa is ready)

Oh definitely start preparing your documents. It's a long process that can be pretty stressful. I think the fact you two desire to marry is definitely enough to get started on gathering necessary paperwork. I don't think you need a ring either to be engaged like the above poster said. If you plan to have a big wedding, maybe consider the length of time it will take to have one. I think in America a lot of people take a year or so for such weddings? If you want to be with your boyfriend faster though I say just get married then have your "wedding" later. You both must be growing tired of the distance so I don't think there's any harm in applying for the k1 already. If time doesn't bother you and there's no rush, do whatever you feel is right. (L)

Yes, so so tired of this distance. I wanna just get the OK to be a permeant resident. Thats what we intend to do, get married with a few witnesses, dont even need the dress or party then later it can happen for real. Probably not a big wedding ^^ we aren't that fortunate. Has your visa been approved? if so how long did it take roughly?

Actually we're still at the beginning of our process and I can tell you it's been difficult waiting. Our case has been active for 67 days so far and still no sign of our NOA2 (approval of petition). That's why I'm encouraging you to get your things started already. I've been with my fiance for 2 years only and it's hard enough so for you guys it must be very difficult :(. Same here, we aren't as fortunate since we are a young couple but we plan to do the same as you guys then have our big wedding in his country when he gets his green card (it's cheaper there). I still have no ring either although my mom has offered me one. I think it's more special from the person you love regardless of price. What matters is that you guys are together and seeing from how long you've made it with long distance, you both deserve it the most! :luv: I have a few friends from Australia. It always seemed so pretty there! You might find that Texas is quite conservative in comparison though.

Omg 67 days?? thats tough... :( Ive read it can take 6-7 months. What a drag. Youre right, it is pretty here, although I do feel like i fit in comfortably in his country :) hes centered in Bangs TX, its not very "green" more like country style. But i like it, i just wanna be where he is no matter what our town looks like. ?

I think that too about prices on rings, ive already found some for 50$ on amazon! but i want to wait for him to decide when to purchase one. We just communicate everyday so its not that bad, we miss each other terribly but we also have fun when we spend time together. I hope u two get the approvel and things go well! ☺️ Are either of you allowed to visit each other while u wait for the visa? I dont think i could wait 7 months without booking a ticket..

If you click on the "Timeline" under the a person's picture etc. It will take you to the timeline if they have it filled out, assuming you are using a computer, as for phone click on the person's name and scroll down till you see the words "Timeline". Some people don't have theirs filled out, or people like me, aren't able to file yet but lurk the forums and ask questions so they understand the process better so their process goes smoothly.

After you read the guide on how to do it, I highly suggest you try to fill out the forums and see where you get stuck and work your way around that. That is what I am doing, if I have an question I try to search the forums first, but if I can not find something that fits my scenario, I try to go back as far as 2007, I know things change. If I can not find it, then I will post. Everyone's case is different compared to the next one. Once you do ask questions, please try to be detailed as possible so people can help you out with what is going on in your end.

Gather your pictures (With in the last two years) pass port stamps hotel movie tickets etc. Anything that has yours and his name on it. Or in this case your name on something that is in the USA. Could be a bank statement with a transaction stating USA. A handful of these things should work. Create a timeline starting with the 1st few days of meeting him etc, even better if you still have the photos text messages etc.

I-130 CR1 Timeline  Visa has been issued!!!!!! = ^.^= YAY!
