Another Marriage Question

really great site. I am happy its here as we are quite lost.

My gf is from Namibia and has the tourist visa. I met her in windhoek and she also came here recently. We really want to be closer together so are looking into marriage but are unsure of which way to go.

At first we thought k1 would work but she said that she must travel to south africa for the interview and that they may make her come back and forth to which she is not sure she can do that. She is also terrified of traveling to joburg (and s africa in general) and for good reason. She said in namibia they do not do any k1 visa interviews.

I could also visit her, get married there, and do the cr1 thing right? Or, when she visits me again, what if we decide to get married here? Can she just file for and adjustment?

We are confused as to which was is the best considering the fact that she is from Namibia,

You have two visa choices. The first is the K-1 fiancé visa. After she receives this she has 6 months from the date of the medical to enter the country and you must marry within 90 days and the wedding must take place in the USA. This is the quickest way for her to get into the USA for good but has its drawbacks. She will not be able to work or leave the country from when she arrives until around 90 days after you marry. It is also more expensive.

Or you can get married at a location of your choosing and file the CR-1. Takes longer but she will be a permanent resident immediately upon arrival and will be able to work and travel.

Having her enter the country with the intention of marrying and adjusting status is fraudulent. Not worth considering.

Do they do CR-1 interviews in Namibia? If she cannot face going to Johannesburg (and I totally get that, having been there myself) and they do CR-1 interviews in Namibia that might be your answer.

No immigrant visa interviews are conducted in Namibia.

we will likely go with the k1 but just thought id ask: if you all were me, would you go with the k1 or cr1? I am able to fly to namibia and marry there...which one seems better?

The K1 is better because you are already in the process for it. She will have to go to S. Africa either way.
