Apple says it took "courage" to remove the headphone jack on iPhone7

This morning, Apple confirmed the fears of many technology enthusiasts and headphone owners worldwide: the 3.5mm headphone jack would not be making its way to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. In its place, the company will rely on three alternatives: a Lightning-compatible pair of new included EarPods; a pair of $159 wireless Bluetooth AirPods that require no physical connection; and a free dongle to connect old, analog headphones to the device. When describing this change, Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller gave a peculiar defense.

"The reason to move on: courage. The courage to move on and do something new that betters all of us," he said onstage. Those words were uttered with a hand-waving grandiosity seemingly at odds with what some consider an anti-consumer move that may kick off a bitter standards war.

I tried to watch the launch...you needed an apple product to see it. I work for a cell phone company and if it drives folks into our stores I am fine with the canard.

The wife lives the IPhone. I see very little the 6 will do the 5 will not.

Last time I upgraded I went to the Samsung Edge 7. It is soooo much better. I did the Bogo and got an extra the wife uses in addition to her desk top 2 laptops 2 I pads and IPhone and note 4. Hey the girl has to stay connected.

It doesn't do more, it just does it better.

For the price apple charges, it better do it better. Seriously though, when the iPhones came out first, there really wasn't much else that could compete, but when you have the likes of Xiaomi selling phones that are in many ways as good as, if not better than the iPhone for a whole lot less money down, it just really doesn't make sense anymore to buy an iPhone.

So I look over on side table at 2 am and see a cryptic email from your boss...I would rather turn it off.

I have spent 3 months with Android and I have to say , I still miss the Windows Phone platform for its sheer productivity, But the lack of applications and integration killed the platform.
