We called the USCIS support line 4 times now, and they all refuse to connect us to a Tier 2 agent, and simply tell us the case is still being processed and to follow the processing timelines posted. We are September filers, and this is beyond frustrating for us. Especially seeing others having luck with getting responses.

Sharing the same level of frustration with you, especially seeing that some people with almost a month later submission date getting approvals...

However, there is an ugly truth about customer call center at USCIS - they are a third party company that don't know much at all. They trained to tell you very generic answers and simply telling you to wait as it is "within normal wait times" (don't know what they consider normal). I spoke with Tier 2 a few times and they just as useless as Tier 1...... 

Personally, I would recommend using app called "case tracker"(in apple app store) where you can see a range of up to 500 applications and their status. I think this will give you much better information than Tier 2. Just keep in mind that a lot of people reported that online system is delayed (some reported up to 2 weeks delays), so the chances are that you will find out any news from physical mail first.

I've been traveling with the extension letter with no problem, actually I just came back from a business trip a week and a half ago. But my GC expires 10/22 and my next business trip is 11/04 so I made an infopass appointment. I hope they don't make any problems with giving me a stamp at the appointment but it sounds like majority of people had no problem with that thus far. 

 

This is absolutely not an NJ or state level thing bcos I am from NJ as well but I was approved 09/11, my filing receipt date was 09/19/16. File a service request with a Tier 2 officer!

Hey Everyone

 

This might be a dumb question, but when you travel with the stamp, is the stamp by itself good enough or do you have to carry the expired green card too? I have an infopass appointment this Monday to get the stamp for my wife since she will be traveling overseas in November.

Just the stamp in the passport and she's good to go. Sometimes, the officer confiscates the expired green card at the Infopass for the stamp, and so not everybody even has it anymore after getting the stamp.

Hi Everyone,

 

I am also September filer: filed to VSC, application receipt date 09-20-2016, biometrics were taken on 10-21-2016. And since then there was no update on my case.

We just called USCIS, and I wanted to share our experience.

 

The Tier 1 person is absolutely useless, it seems they are just sitting in front of the screen with the USCIS website open and operate the same information that anyone can get on-line. The lady even told us that our case is still in processing time limits because VSC now is processing August 15 filers (!). Bunch of nonsense, as this information is of July 31 (as per info at the top of the processing times table). Shows how much Tier 1 people understand the updates on their own website.

Well, I guess we got lucky, because when we asked to be transferred to a Tier 2 agent, she did it right away without any questions asked. Though before making that request we did tell her that to our knowledge many people who filed after us have already been approved.

By the way, we called about 11 am eastern time. The automatic reply on the line told us the waiting time for call back is 34 minutes, and they did call us back almost exactly 34 minutes later.

 

The Tier 2 officer obviously can see much more stuff about your case. She told us that our file is still in Service Center (I specifically asked about that after reading the forum), that there are no notes about case requiring interview or any additional evidences. Then she proceeded to send an e-mail to VSC with our information to remind Service Center that our case is still pending. At the end she told us that VSC should make a decision and inform us within two weeks, whether it will be an approval or a request for an interview. She did record my phone number and e-mail, but said it was up to VSC to inform us by call, e-mail or a physical letter.

 

So... In my opinion, the only useful information we got was that the case is still in Service Center, so there is a higher chance it will be approved without interview.

However, now we are trapped in another two week wait before we can call and inquire any further.

Bunch of nonsense, as this information is of July 31 (as per info at the top of the processing times table). Shows how much Tier 1 people understand the updates on their own website.

Well, I guess we got lucky, because when we asked to be transferred to a Tier 2 agent, she did it right away without any questions asked. Though before making that request we did tell her that to our knowledge many people who filed after us have already been approved.

By the way, we called about 11 am eastern time. The automatic reply on the line told us the waiting time for call back is 34 minutes, and they did call us back almost exactly 34 minutes later.

 

The Tier 2 officer obviously can see much more stuff about your case. She told us that our file is still in Service Center (I specifically asked about that after reading the forum), that there are no notes about case requiring interview or any additional evidences. Then she proceeded to send an e-mail to VSC with our information to remind Service Center that our case is still pending. At the end she told us that VSC should make a decision and inform us within two weeks, whether it will be an approval or a request for an interview. She did record my phone number and e-mail, but said it was up to VSC to inform us by call, e-mail or a physical letter.

 

So... In my opinion, the only useful information we got was that the case is still in Service Center, so there is a higher chance it will be approved without interview.

However, now we are trapped in another two week wait before we can call and inquire any further. 

If your case is still at VSC up until this moment, you most likely will be approved without an interview. The response letter your gonna get from VSC will say "you should receive a decision within 60days." Give it like 2-3 weeks later and call in to speak to a Tier 2 and you will be informed about ya approval although it wouldn't show online. This is of course based on my personal experience.

Yes, the address changes are scary... I've had a couple (one out of state) and even though they confirmed at my InfoPass that they had my correct address, I'm still nervous that I might miss a notification. I'm an August filer from CSC, so whenever they start approving August filers I'll have to call and double check that I haven't missed anything!

here's my timeline, I filed a service request on 08/07 then 08/14 they responded with a letter saying my case was "currently under officer review and should expect a decision within 60days." On 09/11 case was approved but no online update... I just happened to call in on 09/12, only to be told by the Tier 2 officer that my case was approved the previous day. So use my experience to kinda gauge your outcome... All the best! PS as for the change of address, I don't recommend doing it online, to me it's a waste of time... just do it with a Tier 2 agent cos that way it takes away the guesswork of whether or not the system really updated the changes.

I've been putting off moving until I get this card because I don't want the people who move into my future former apartment to receive it and just keep it or toss it out. USCIS are notoriously bad at updating addresses when a petition or application is pending.

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

 

September 26th 2016: I-751 package sent to CSC

September 28th 2016: Package delivered
September 30th 2016: Check cashed
October 3rd 2016: NOA1 received with receipt date of 09/28/16
November 3rd 2016: Biometrics received with appointment date of 11/14/16.
November 14th 2016: Attended biometrics appointment
October 30th 2017: Infopass appointment to get I-551 stamp
February 26th 2018: I-751 case number (aka the NOA1 receipt number) becomes trackable
March 14th 2018: Submitted service request due to being outside of processing time.

April 6th 2018: Card in hand. Has incorrect "resident since" date. Submitted service request on I-751 case (typographical error on permanent resident card) and an I-90 online.

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

August 13th 2018: Card mailed

August 15th 2018: Card in hand with correct date. :joy:

October 31st 2018: Potomac sends out a notice stating they have closed out my I-90 per my request. Yay for no duplicate card drama.

I know! If it weren't for the fact that we're both teachers (and thus had to be in our new city before school started) I would have wanted to wait as well! Well... hoping for the best, anyway!
