It depends on the office/officer. I got my stamp about 3 months out from the letter expiration, because I moved to AZ and needed the stamp to get a new driver's license. I've heard lots of stories on VJ of people getting the stamp "early" like I did. But I've also heard of lots of people being turned away if it was more than about a month away from the letter expiring. 

You don't need to "apply" for anything here - just make an InfoPass appointment - so there's pretty much no harm in giving it a try (basically, just the loss of your time going to and from the office)

Hi everyone,

 

I haven't been active here but wanted to add my case to the timeline for future tracking. I had the infopass appointment in NYC today and below is the entire sequence of events so far - 

 

1) I-751 mailed on Sept 11th, 2016 to VSC

2) NOA1 from VSC received on Sept 14th, 2016 - 1 year extension on conditional status

3) Biometrics/fingerprinting on Oct 11th, 2016

4) No updates after that online or otherwise (frustrating waiting game!)

5) Scheduled on infopass appointment on Aug 14th, 2017 to request stamp on my passport

6) Infopass appointment - Aug 31st, 2017 - officer at the counter told me that my new GC is already under production and so I received a stamp only with 60 day validity! (she specified that she's writing "IR1" and not "CR1" on it, which means its not conditional anymore :)). Also, my expired GC was returned and I wasn't asked for the case receipts/notices, proof of address or anything else that I did carry with me, just in case.

 

Hoping to receive the actual 10 yr GC now!

We flew back from London last night and found the new green card waiting for us there. It had arrived a week after the approval notice while were visiting family in the UK.


As others have stated, the new card states "signature waived" in place where the signature was on the previous card.

 

I was surprised to note that the validity date of 10 years is from the date the card was reported "being produced" and not the original date of immigration or even the date of the I-751 approval.

 

Best of luck to everyone still waiting.
